The College Football Playoff started with the Michigan Wolverines facing off against the Alabama Crimson Tide in a classic Rose Bowl. In the end, Michigan edged out Alabama by a final score of 27-20 in overtime. Now, the Wolverines have earned a spot in the national championship game. However, some college football fans are questioning the integrity of the 2023 college football season.
College Football Fan Reactions
College football fans were not shy about voicing their opinions after the Michigan Wolverines Rose Bowl win. Because the program was in the middle of a major sign-stealing accusation during the regular season, many fans question the integrity of the program. Now, the issue has been brought up again as Michigan is one step closer to being on top of the college football world. Here is what fans had to say:
“Probably knew the play before they (Alabama) ran it.”
“Rigged af.”
“Easy to win when you have the other team’s playbook.”
“A head coach suspended not once but twice, 2 assistants fired for cheating… shouldn’t be playing… definitely an *”
“Cheaters. This year doesn’t even count if they win tbh and any real fan agrees.”
“Cheaters.”
“Only because they (Michigan) cheat! Harbaugh is not an honest person. It’s easy to win when you know someone else’s plays.”
Sign-Stealing Scandal Allegations
This has been a tumultuous season for the Michigan Wolverines. The reason is that there have been sign-stealing allegations that go back multiple seasons for this program. Connor Stalions, who was on the Michigan football staff, supposedly led the charge. He even had tickets for multiple games to try to study signs that rival teams typically used.
The TCU Horned Frogs and the Ohio State Buckeyes seemed to be in the center of this. A report came out earlier this season that revealed TCU changed their signs before last year’s playoff game against Michigan. The reason was they were told that Michigan was well known for stealing signs among Big Ten teams. As a result, TCU caught Michigan off guard in the first half and went on to win that playoff game.
Then, we have the Ohio State Buckeyes. There have been rumors that Ohio State hired the private detective who exposed this sign-stealing scandal from Michigan. The Wolverines football program has denied all allegations.
However, they did not avoid punishment completely. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh did get suspended for the final three regular season games. That seemed to unite the Wolverines and got them to finish the season strong. Now, whether the college football world likes it or not, they are playing for a national championship.
