The NFL Competition Committee is expected to propose another rule with the intent of protecting quarterbacks. The intentional grounding penalty is expected to be altered. The alteration to the grounding rule would entail eliminating the distinction of the pocket. As it stands, a quarterback has to escape the pocket to throw the ball away as long as it crosses the line of scrimmage. The NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell are testing new technology to assist with in-game officiating, specifically the spotting of the ball. The technology, developed by Hawk-Eye, would measure first downs electronically with high-tech optical tracking. The technology wouldn’t only help with the measurement of first downs. There would also be high-resolution cameras along the sidelines as well as the front and back of the end zone. Former Washington Huskies running back Emeka Megwa is suing the school, coaches and trainers for alleged medical negligence that took place during his time with the team. Specifically, nine coaches are being sued along with the sports medicine, training and physical therapy staff.
