The Dallas Cowboys continue to try to figure things out with their trio of stars as they are all searching for a new contract. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is not expected to report to training camp on Wednesday when the Cowboys are scheduled to appear.
CeeDee Lamb is on the final year of his rookie contract, where he is scheduled to make $17.99 million this season. Lamb has been one of the best receivers in the National Football League as he led the league in catches last year. He finished the 2023 season with 135 catches on 181 targets for 1,749 yards (13.0 yards per catch) with 12 receiving touchdowns. Lamb also ran 43 times for 318 yards (7.4 yards per attempt) with a pair of rushing touchdowns.
It is no secret that CeeDee Lamb is a pivotal key to the success of the Dallas Cowboys offense. However, with he, quarterback Dak Prescott and linebacker Micah Parsons all looking for a new contract extension, this season could be the last of the three-headed Cowboys monster.
Will the Dallas Cowboys agree to an extension with CeeDee Lamb before the season?
The Dallas Cowboys are in a window to compete for a Super Bowl and because of the cap restraint they have currently, saw an inactive offseason. This is similar to the Brandon Aiyuk situation with the San Francisco 49ers in which he is on the final year of his rookie contract and wants a new deal as well.
The Cowboys have two moves they can realistically make: sign Lamb to a massive extension and guarantee their WR1 for the next half-decade or trade him away and recoup some draft picks as a result. This seems to be a going trend but it will be interesting.
Jerry Jones is going to have to decide to either trade away a franchise star or give him $30+ million per season. Justin Jefferson, AJ Brown and Amon-Ra St. Brown all got new contracts this offseason and they all eclipsed $30 million AAV.
This is a trying time for the Dallas Cowboys, if they do not sign CeeDee Lamb, it is time to stop considering them America’s Team.
