The Seattle Seahawks pulled off a stunning upset in yesterday’s edition of Monday Night Football. With a defeat of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Seahawks improved to 7-7 and the Eagles fell to 10-4. People who bet on the Seahawks to win outright certainly made a nice profit last night. However, the Seattle win continued quite a notable betting trend on Monday Night Football this season.
Seattle Seahawks Were Seventh Straight Underdog to Win on Monday Night Football
The Seattle Seahawks became the seventh straight underdog to win on Monday Night Football this season. They did it in dramatic fashion considering it took a miraculous effort from QB Drew Lock. This is someone who was not officially announced as the starting quarterback for the game until moments before kickoff.
Believe it or not, this is not an unusual story for Monday games this season. Since Week 10, the NFL has seen some shocking underdogs come up with big wins. Who else has done this? Let’s take a look.
Other Monday Night Football Upsets
Here is the list of every underdog that has won on Monday Night Football during this winning streak:
- Week 10- Denver Broncos defeated Buffalo Bills
- Week 11- Philadelphia Eagles defeated Kansas City Chiefs
- Week 12- Chicago Bears defeated Minnesota Vikings
- Week 13- Cincinnati Bengals defeated Jacksonville Jaguars
- Week 14- New York Giants defeated Green Bay Packers
- Week 14- Tennessee Titans defeated Miami Dolphins
- Week 15- Seattle Seahawks defeated Philadelphia Eagles
One of the most notable upsets on this list was the Titans upsetting the Dolphins. For one thing, Tennessee was an underdog by nearly two touchdowns. Also, the Titans overcame a 14-point deficit with less than three minutes to go.
In the Week 14 doubleheader, the Giants also derailed the Packers’ winning streak. Green Bay had huge wins over the Chiefs and Lions prior to that game and were nearly touchdown road favorites over the Giants. Nevertheless, Giants rookie phenom Tommy DeVito led the way and secured the win.
Before that, the Bengals stunned the Jaguars with Jake Browning leading the way. It would be the start of a huge winning streak for Cincinnati to get right back in the thick of the playoff race. In Week 12, the Bears beat the Vikings in what many considered a sloppy football game.
Week 11 was perhaps the most anticipated matchup on this list. It was the rematch of last year’s Super Bowl and it was being played at Arrowhead Stadium. At the time, these were considered two of the best teams in the NFL. Yet, the Eagles cruised to a big road victory.
Finally, we have the Broncos. At the time, their defeat over the Bills looked like the end of any playoff aspirations for Buffalo. This is especially the case because of a crucial Bills error leading to that result. However, Buffalo has managed to bounce back since then.
