Jared Goff Over Joe Burrow? Massively Popular Analyst Says Yes

A new contract has fans and media personalities comparing Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff to quarterbacks around the league.

One instance of this came Wednesday when media personality Colin Cowherd made the claim that Goff is better than Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff recently signed a massive contract

Lions quarterback Jared Goff looks to pass against the 49ers during the second half of the Lions’ 34-31 loss in the NFC championship game in Santa Clara, California, on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024.

The Lions recently signed Goff to a contract that makes him the second-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL right now.

Goff’s contract, which is worth $212 million, will have Goff receiving an average of $53 million a year. The only quarterback receiving a higher average payment per year is Burrow, who is receiving an average of $55 million a year. Goff showed great appreciation for the city of Detroit upon signing the new contract in an article from Pride of Detroit.

“Absolutely. A lot more,” Goff said in a press conference Thursday. “Doing it in a place like this, where the fans are so passionate and care so much, and how honored I am to be their quarterback and be their leader. And to play for Dan (Campbell) and play for (offensive coordinator) Ben (Johnson), (QB coach Mark) Brunell, and all the other coaches, and play with these teammates, it is really special. It’s something I’ll remember forever.”

This massive contract signing makes Goff a higher-paid quarterback than the likes of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

The fact that Goff is being paid so much has prompted many comparisons throughout the league. One notable comparison comes from media personality Colin Cowherd.

On his show “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” Cowherd says that he would take Goff to lead his franchise because “Goff never gets hurt” despite saying that Burrow is in fact the better quarterback.

“Burrow is better… Goff never gets hurt. I’d go Goff.”

Alternatively, Cowherd said he would take Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson despite Burrow only missing two more games than Jackson since coming into the league in 2020.

Cowherd also went on to take Goff over San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy because Goff broke a three-decade-long winless playoff streak for the Detroit Lions even though Burrow did the same thing for the Bengals just a few years ago.

Burrow started 2023 injured, which hampered the entire Bengals team, and then he finished with a season-ending injury to his wrist. This was the second season-ending injury Burrow suffered after tearing multiple ligaments in his knee midway through his rookie season.

Goff has only suffered minor injuries throughout his career. DraftSharks.com says Burrow has a “high risk” of reinjury with a 63.3% chance of injury in 2024 while Goff has a “very low risk” of reinjury with just a 20.1% chance of injury in 2024.

Fans went crazy on social media after hearing that Colin Cowherd said he’d take Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff over Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow

Many Bengals fans and NFL fans took to social media to voice their opinion on Cowherd saying he’d take Goff over Burrow. Especially considering Cowherd had Burrow ranked over Goff by a wide margin in late February, and there have been no more injuries to Burrow between now and then.

Top 12 QBs in the #NFL according to Colin Cowherd:

    1. Patrick Mahomes
    2. Josh Allen
    3. Joe Burrow
    4. Lamar Jackson
    5. Matthew Stafford
    6. Justin Herbert
    7. Trevor Lawrence
    8. Jared Goff
    9. Kyler Murray
    10. Aaron Rodgers
    11. C.J. Stroud
    12. Dak Prescott

Many fans are saying Cowherd made the claim for more personal reasons that don’t have to do with the actual play on the field.

Burrow has 4 straight years with injuries?
“the injuries are now part of it” picks goff
“people always bang on lamar jackson for being hurt” picks Lamar.
    Make it make sense @ColinCowherd.

If you’re wondering why Colin really took Goff just remember where he went to college

    — t1000 (@username25350) May 14, 2024

Lol Colin is just mad Burrow doesn’t do a podcast with him anymore

    — Joe (@JMoney8655) May 14, 2024

But Lamar being hurt doesn’t stop it? Weird bias. Joe must have turned Colin down for more shows and he just hates him now! lol

    — Jesse Ross (@jessedeandraws) May 16, 2024

It’s really sad to see the mental decline of Colin over the years. I used to enjoy watching him back in the day. Prayers for him and his family

    — Leo (@Magicks13) May 14, 2024

Butt hurt bc Burrow stopped doing your podcast. Wild take

    — Jamarr Chase Burner (@Jamarr1Chase) May 15, 2024

Burrow appears to be back to his old throwing abilities according to videos from early Bengals camp while Goff looks to improve on the magical 2023 run the Lions made.
