Jalen Hurts went viral recently after he seemingly took a shot at his Philadelphia Eagles teammates following their loss to the Seattle Seahawks, bluntly saying that they lack commitment. Jason Kelce has seen the comments from his quarterback, but he’s not bothered by it.
In fact, Kelce agreed with Hurts’ take that the Eagles lack commitment when it comes to resolving their execution problems. The Philadelphia safety pointed out that there’s simply no other way around it: they have to put in the work and make sure they won’t commit the same mistakes again.
“That’s the attitude you have to have. When you’re not performing as a team, when you’re not winning games, the only thing you can do is go back and work that much more,” Kelce said during the latest episode of his New Heights podcast with his brother, Travis Kelce (via USA Today). “Go back and commit yourself that much harder. We have great people in the building, we have people that want to win. I know that. There’s no question in my mind about that.
Jason Kelce also provided more clarity on Jalen Hurts’ take that confused many. Many assumed that the quarterback is pertaining to someone when he questioned the Eagles’ commitment. But for Kelce, he thinks his quarterback is just talking in general and simply emphasizing what they need to do moving forward.
“For me, the commitment comment, that’s all you can do, is re-commit yourself even more than you already are. I think that, at the end of the day, all you can do is go back and work, go back and focus on the fundamentals, focus on where you’re making mistakes as an individual, focus on how you can help your teammate, assist your teammate. Be where you need to be. Bring energy,” Kelce said.
“I think, all these things, in the grand scheme of things, add up to you and your teammates playing better, if everybody has that mindset. I think that when you approach it with intention and approach it with the seriousness that it needs to be approached with, then generally things get corrected.”
While Hurts’ remarks might feel harsh, he definitely means well. Everybody is just as frustrated with their current skid, and it’s normal to be critical of the team at such moment when things aren’t working.
Could have Hurts been more clear with his take? Sure. But at the end of the day, as Kelce proved, the message is well received.
Philadelphia Eagles’ Frustrations Are Rising
As mentioned, all members of the Philadelphia Eagles are just as disappointed as Jalen Hurts after their brutal loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
For one, wide receiver AJ Brown didn’t hold back his thoughts on their slump, though he said he’s not getting discouraged despite their struggles.
“I’m disappointed, but I’m not discouraged. I know what type of football player I am and I just have to focus on my job and getting ready to play and try to get my guys in the room ready to play,” Brown said following Monday’s defeat.
Jason Kelce himself had the same sentiments, sharing in his podcast that “losing sucks.” Nonetheless, it’s only motivating him to do better and bounce back in the final stretch of the season.
It’s not yet too late for the Eagles to turn their fortunes around. If they can win their final three games, they will still be able to top the NFC East even if the Dallas Cowboys win out as well. With that being said, that will surely be the focus of the team as they try to build some momentum before the postseason.
