Taking a late round quarterback in fantasy football can seem like a genius idea or just a giant risk. You can land a consistent quarterback in late rounds of fantasy drafts without a doubt. While this doesn’t give you a massive edge at the position it can allow for upside at other roster spots. Today we’ll look at one of the most criminally under rated quarterbacks in fantasy football. Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings has finished as quarterback 11 the last two fantasy seasons. Year after year his name gets forgotten about and I believe he could be a steal heading into the 2022 season.
What did Cousins do in 2022?
As mentioned above Cousins performed very well from a fantasy perspective last season, coming in as quarterback 11 overall. He finished with 4221 passing yards, 33 passing touchdowns, and just seven interceptions. Cousins is a pure pocket passer who doesn’t necessarily offer any upside on the ground. He showed great chemistry with star wide receiver Justin Jefferson, and veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen before his injuries. Cousins’ efforts landed him a one-year extension with the Vikings. There is no greater nod of confidence than being extended under a new coaching regime.
What Can We Expect From Cousins in 2022?
Cousins enters 2022 with a head coaching change under former Rams offensive guru Kevin O’Connell. Cousins has the potential to be a top 10 fantasy quarterback as he did from 2015-2017 with Washington. Many Minnesota fans are of the belief that with a new offensive scheme Cousins can excel even further at the position, similar to how he played in Washington.
On top of that Cousins has arguably one of the best wide receiver rooms in the entire league. Justin Jefferson is in discussion to be the first wide receiver drafted in fantasy football this coming season and finished as wide receiver four overall last year. Cousins and veteran receiver Adam Thielen have an amazing chemistry together and racked up 10 touchdowns through 13 games together last season. The emergence of wide receiver K.J. Osborn while Thielen was injured last year makes this offense even more dangerous.

The Vikings also have an incredible rushing attack led by star running back Dalvin Cook, a top 10 fantasy player at his respective position. Tight end Irv Smith who missed all of last season is also expected to be a dangerous weapon for this passing attack.
O’Connell has certainly given his star receiver the belief that this team will be passing the football more in 2022. The change at head coach and a plethora of receiving options give me all of the faith that Cousins will be a great late round quarterback to target in 2022 fantasy football drafts. Cousins has an incredible average draft projection of 125, don’t sleep on him heading into 2022.
