The first night of the 2024 NFL Draft was a night to remember
To begin with some basic highlights:
The first round of the NFL Draft of 2024 began with the Chicago Bears selecting USC quarterback, Caleb Williams, who was the first of six quarterbacks in the top twelve picks. Williams was followed by Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy, and Bo Nix all being selected by their new teams.
The main highlight that everyone cannot stop talking about from round one of the 2024 NFL Draft is Caleb Williams’s selection by the Bears.
The Chicago Bears and Bears fans were overjoyed and more than excited to acquire Williams for the 2024 season. With Williams on the Bears, the Bears are set to see a championship mindset.
Caleb Williams, “the consensus top prospect” of the NFL Draft, threw for 3,633 yards,30 touchdowns, and five interceptions this last season. Williams was the winner of the Heisman Trophy as the best player in college football in 2022 after he brought the Trojans from a four-win team to an 11-win team.
The Minnesota Vikings managed to trade up twice in the first round, jumping up one spot to the No.10 spot for Michigan quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, “..to make sure they did not miss out on their most dire need and later making a six-spot leap to No.17 for Alabama’s edge rusher, Dallas Turner”.
Vikings general manager, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said that he always talks about minimizing regret. As Mensah is a spreadsheet and calculation type of guy, he stated that sometimes you have to take the glasses off and just go with a championship mindset and acquire a great player.
Another important and shocking highlight of the 2024 NFL Draft is in regard to Michael Penix, Jr.
Michael Penix Jr. says he’s looking forward to learning from Kirk Cousins. The Falcons drafted Penix eighth overall despite signing Cousins to be their quarterback on a four-year, $180 million contract a month ago.
Penix knows he is very fortunate for the opportunity and is going to take complete advantage to make the most out of his career with the Falcons. He is looking forward to learning all he can from Cousins.
Another notable draft was Xavier Legette. NBC sports editor, Greg Rosenstein, said, “The quick South Carolina receiver had 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He will be a major boost for Bryce Young, who had few weapons to throw to in his rookie season”.
Round one of the NFL Draft of 2024 was one for the books filled with so much excitement from the teams, management, family, and fans, only indicating an optimistic and positively changing season.
