The Kansas City Chiefs go on the road to take on the Los Angeles Chargers after barely edging out three straight wins, all within one score. All three games have come down to the very end, and that might not change this week either. Patrick Mahomes has been average to start the season with just 64-92 passes for 659 yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions. He’s been able to do just enough to edge out these wins despite starting running back Isaiah Pacheco being out due to a fractured fibula.
And star tight end Travis Kelce has been almost non-existent in his performance thus far. The Chiefs’ defense will need to be on their toes against one of the best ground games in the league, considering J.K. Dobbins is currently third in the league in rushing behind Saquon Barkley, and Jordan Mason.
Kansas City Chiefs Put Undefeated Record On The Line At SOFI This Weekend
The Kansas City Chiefs shouldn’t take this game lightly whatsoever. While this Chargers team is beaten up and battling injuries all around this team, the Los Angeles Chargers defense has only given up 11 points per game, and they get after the quarterback very well. Patrick Mahomes will need to be better at blocking up front to give him enough time to throw the ball. Speaking of quarterback, The Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is nursing a high-ankle sprain that he aggravated last weekend.
And to make matters worse both of his starting offensive tackles are hurt, Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater missed Wednesday’s practice, which is not a good sign for the Chargers going into Week 4. Another reason this is worrisome for the Chargers is, that their philosophy so far this season has been run, run, run, and run some more. They’re ninth in the league in rush EPA, and it’s no shock to see with their new RB duo of Dobbins and Edwards, but it may be tougher to get yards on the ground this week with a beat-up O-line, and offense in general.
This Offense Needs To Step Up Not Only In This Game But Going Forward Deeper Into The Season
These days, this Kansas City Chiefs offense isn’t what it used to be in terms of variety or potency. Don’t get me wrong it was supposed to be, but injuries happened and this team isn’t as potent as people thought it would be this year. Patrick Mahomes ranks 30th in average air yards per pass attempt at 5.2. The two-time MVP is completing just 38% of his passes against pressure, which is a shallow figure considering his track record. Luckily for him, Los Angeles has also struggled to generate pressure in their first three games.
While the Los Angeles defense looks like they’ve improved quite a bit, I don’t know if fans are sold on them yet. On the other side, Mahomes and the Chiefs still have some things to sort out in their own right. Luckily for the Chiefs, the Chargers are also battling the same things on their end. Andy Reids Chiefs aren’t blowing the team out too much anymore, so expect another close game this weekend, probably another close game that will go to the very end.
