As a professional sports organization, the Dallas Cowboys are apolitical. That is, while ownership and individual employees, coaches, and players all have their own political beliefs and can endorse any political candidate that they want to, the team itself does not endorse any particular candidate.
Earlier today, Vice President Kamala Harris‘ campaign announced “Athletes for Harris,” a collection of former and current professional athletes that have officially endorsed her to be the next President of the United States.
Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Thomas Booker is one of the 10 co-chairs of the effort, which has also garnered the support of 15 Pro Football Hall of Fame members, including Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith.
Dallas Cowboys Legend Emmitt Smith Has Endorsed Kamala Harris for President of the United States
According to a report by USA Today, Booker is the only NFL affiliated member of the 10-person chair committee. Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers and Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr are also on the committee, as is Hall of Fame point guard Magic Johnson.
In addition to Smith, other Pro Football Hall of Famers that have endorsed Harris include Calvin Johnson, Mel Blount, Kellen Winslow, Andre Tippett, and Alan Page.
This news comes a little more than a week after 50 former NFL players and coaches announced their support of Harris on September 20, which is also National Black Voter Day.
“Given [Vice President Harris’] integrity, values and demonstrated commitment to justice and equality of opportunity, we are confident that as President she will serve the best interests of all Americans,” they wrote in a letter obtained by CBS News.
Art Shell and Leslie Frazier were two of the bigger names that signed the letter.
Other NFL legends, such Herschel Walker, Antonio Brown, and Brett Favre, have endorsed former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
