2022 NFL OPOY Candidates are the 5 listed below.  They’ve distinguished themselves with outstanding catches and impossible runs.  A couple have taken abysmal teams and lifted them to at least compete, and some have had given offensive squads elevated to Super-Bowl contenders.  Here’s what their credentials are, as well as their most notable statistics. NFL OPOY Candidates     Cooper Kupp LA Rams The basics, Cooper Kupp has 64 catches for 686 yards in 7 games.  Totals are great, but only 35% of last year’s totals through about 40% of the year’s games. Cooper Kupp started the year as a favorite…

Memphis vs UCF Preview You cannot do a Memphis vs UCF Preview without noting the different directions of the seasons. Memphis comes off a 3-game losing streak. UCF has just beaten a top-25 conference rival. Memphis needs to get home cooking to beat UCF. The key factor in this game is the injury to the star QB for UCF. This is the 2022 near mid season ranking of the Top-5 NFL RBs from Memphis. Astonishingly, a small non-power-5 school like the University of Memphis has many top RBS.  More than 5 have been drafted and a couple made the NFL from practice squads. The Steelers had high hopes for his freshman outing and there was no small amount of hype (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, subscr. required)  In preseason he was used a lot, often as a WR.  Unfortunately, he had an injury and hasn’t…

This is the Memphis vs Tulane Preview.  Tulane has lost at home before this year, that Tulane loss was to Southern Miss, a team winless to that point.  Tulane is riding the crest of an overtime win over Houston and now, it’s first top 25 appearance in a decade.  The Memphis Tigers are in the throes of a two-game losing streak, including a last-second loss to that same Houston team.  Does this make them a favorite, yes, a seven-point one.  Here’s why Coach Silverfield and the Memphis Tigers surprise this week. Memphis Tigers at ECU Pirates Preview features two teams coming off conference losses.  ECU lost to Tulane to fall to 3-3 for the year, and Memphis lost to Houston (you should read my article about their near-historic loss) to fall to 4-2 for the year. The Memphis Tigers go on the road for the first time in a month, and will have to readjust to not having a home crowd. Memphis Tigers are still aching from the kick-in-the-gut loss to Houston.  and worse, DB Quindell Johnson is day-to-day. He had an undisclosed injury and didn’t play in the fourth quarter…

Everyone in college football is talking about Name Image Likeness (NIL) and it’s effect on college sports, especially NCAA football. So is the NIL top-10 a determination of AP top-10? Some national columnists say the effects will be hugely detrimental, while others argue that the rich will just get richer .  But does college football NIL compare to the on-the-field results, the AP top-10? NIL top-10 doesn’t perfectly compare to the AP top-10 But strangely enough, not all NIL riches predict success on the field.  This year is the first year so there’s no bar for comparison, so we’ll look…

Studs and Duds Houston beats Memphis In a game that will be talked about for better or worse in Memphis for years (and probably for worse) Houston beat Memphis 33-32.  Memphis led by 19 in the fourth, and by 13 with four minutes remaining;  but never secured the final stop.  It was not only incredible to Memphis fans but incredible in terms of many statistical anomalies.  Here’s the Studs and Duds from this game. Stud: Memphis Red Zone Defense Houston twice had driven inside the Memphis five and  gained zero points.  They held Houston outside the goal line on two…
