To say it’s a pivotal year for the AAC is an understatement.   I will be watching to see if the conference tries to focus on the future. Two new coaches will join the media days.  TCU will introduce Sonny Dykes (formerly of SMU) and SMU will introduce Rhett Lashlee. Two existing coaches will answer pressing questions.   Cincinatti coach Luke Fickel will be asked about Cincinatti leaving, and Ryan Silverfield will answer some about last year’s disappointing season. I hope that conference officials are asked about this year’s event being virtual.  ESPN did not disclose whether the conference or ESPN chose…

The Leav-ers vs the Leftovers. Prince sang “Let’s Pretend we’re Married.”  Well this conference is, for one more season. Tammy Wynette sang in a country twang, D-I-V-O-R-C-E.  This conference will be, next year. The coaches, the players, and the commentators will feign ignorance and indifference.  But I for one can’t wait to see the last time around the conference for those who are leaving for greener pastures. The three programs, Cincinatti, Houston, and UCF are playing just one more year in the AAC. Financial summary;Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF are paying to leave the conference early. according to Bloomberg, it’s $18…

Cons:  There’s conflicting legislations in many states, and the NCAA has new guidelines, which will soon be revised. https://usatodayhss.com/lists/high-school-nil-rules-in-each-of-the-50-states-plus-d-c These are complicated enough even for lawyers.  But for first-year college students and sophomores to understand, what could go wrong?  Many states and universities allow students to employ agents/consultants to help them understand their NIL offers and agreements.  As of now, though,  not all states and universities allow that. The NCAA has recently updated their guidelines. On May 9, 2022, a working group of athletic directors and conference commissioners issued the NCAA’s Interim Name, Image and Likeness Policy Guidance Regarding Third…

The U of M Tigers aren’t known as DB U, and there’s a good reason for that. Last year they were torched by good passing offenses, and this year may be the same.  They’re adding 4 3-star recruits, two by transfer, two by recruitment.   2 Transfer Portal Additions – Joseph Norwood, New Mexico Mil Inst. Laudarian Paulk, Fort Scott Comm. College 2 Direct Recruiting Additions – Trevor Hardy, Alabaster, AL,  Dredrick Bell,  Pensacola, FL,   The four additions are relatively closely ranked by recruiting agencies, and there’s nothing notable except they’re predominantly six foot two or taller.  If you watched Memphis…
