(4) NIL Food Deal
Sonny’s BBQ signed an NIL deal with the entire Florida Offensive line. (h/t On3.com) They are a BBQ franchise based out of Florida, and the deal features promotional appearances at the restaurants throughout the South. Florida’s offensive line includes: Jalen Farmer, Christian Williams, Austin Barber, Riley Simonds, Kingsley Eguakun, Jake Slaughter, Richard Leonard, William Harrod, Kamryn Waites, Ethan White, Kaleb Boateng, O’Cyrus Torrence, David Conner, Michael Tarquin, Joshua Braun, Mark Pitts, Richard Gouraige, Yousef Mugharbil and Jordan Herman. Like the Reese’s signing, this is a mass deal and part of a trend in these types of deals.
(3) NIL Food Deal
(From the New York Times); Shane Bell, a center on the football team at Erskine College, a Division II school in Due West, S.C. Since July, Bell has made about $525 (and gotten free food) from Mama’s Sweet Shoppe, a local business in his part of Abbeville County, in exchange for appearances and social media posts on platforms like Instagram, where he has nearly 1,900 followers.
The NYT article further stated, “Opendorse said the average compensation for name, image and likeness participants was $75 in Division II, less than 10 percent of their Division I peers, and $37 in Division III.” It should be noted that many NIL deals include social media deal posts occasionally as part of the in-person appearance part of the NIL package.
In my opinion, this is a great example of a local business utilizing a local player. Instead of donating a check to the athletic department and getting a note in the game program, NIL allows local boosters/businesses to get actual face-time from a favorite player. Really close to the spirit of what the NIL was meant to be.
(2) NIL Food Deal
Jayden Daniels signed a deal to promote Venezia’s New York Style Pizzeria. So what does he get for his troubles… and by the way, an Arizona State deal for New York Style? Anyway, he gets ” The “JD5 Pizza” is Daniels’ own, self-designed pizza consisting of five different toppings: Extra cheese, pepperoni, mushrooms, bacon and sausage. ” And that’s not all, he pockets a percentage (undisclosed) of all JD5 Pizza Sales.
