The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were one of the more surprising teams in the NFL last season. Despite finishing 9-8, they won the NFC South and upset the Philadelphia Eagles, one of the Super Bowl favorites, in the first round of the NFL Playoffs. However, with a few of their biggest contributors coming up on free agency, the immediate future of the franchise was cast in serious doubt.
Starting quarterback Baker Mayfield was better than advertised, but played on a one-year deal. After having a 64.3% completion percentage while throwing for 4,044 yards, 28 touchdowns, and just 10 interceptions, Mayfield will be a hot commodity on the free agent market. Perhaps most pressing, though, was figuring out how to retain the best wide receiver in franchise history, Mike Evans.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Signed Mike Evans to a 2-Year Contract
In a breaking report this morning by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it was announced that the Buccaneers and Evans had agreed on a two-year contract worth $52 million with $35 million of it guaranteed.
Before free agency begins next week, the Buccaneers and five-time Pro-Bowl WR Mike Evans reached agreement on a two-year, $52 million that includes $35 million guaranteed, per his agent @DerykGilmore.

Evans is a five-time Pro Bowl selection who helped Tampa Bay win the Super Bowl in 2020. He is the only player in NFL history to have over 1,000 yards in 10-consecutive seasons to start his career.
This past season, Evans had 79 receptions for 1,255 yards and a NFL-leading 13 touchdowns. All of those numbers were his highest totals since 2018 (save his 14 touchdown receptions in 2021).
NFL Fans React to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Signing Mike Evans
Many fans outside of the Buccaneers fanbase were happy to see Evans re-sign with the team he has spent his entire career with. Others from fanbases that were hoping to sign him in free agency were not as thrilled:
