The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have re-signed wide receiver Mike Evans to a two-year deal worth $52 million, NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo said on Good Morning Football. NFL free agency was approaching at the start of next week, but the Buccaneers and Evans were able to get a deal done before next week.
Throughout the first 10 years of his NFL career, Mike Evans has gone over 1,000 yards receiving in each season. Only two other players in NFL history have done this. Jerry Rice did it for 14 seasons and Randy Moss did it for 10 seasons.
Both are currently in the Hall of Fame. Evans is on his way there. Last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he caught 79 passes for 1,255 yards receiving and 13 touchdowns and averaged 15.9 yards per reception in all 17 games played during the regular season.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wide Receiver Mike Evans Is One of the Best in the Business
Evans has played with a lot of different quarterbacks throughout his career in Tampa Bay. Some of the quarterbacks he has played with are Ryan Fitzpatrick, Josh Freeman, Jameis Winston, Tom Brady, Mike Glennon, and Baker Mayfield.
Speaking of Mayfield. he played with the Buccaneers last season and the re-signing of Evans can very well bring Bakey Mayfield back for at least next season and maybe beyond. At this point in his career, he is 30 years old and it would just feel like a shock if he never reached at least 1,000 yards in a single season. By the time the regular season begins, he will be 31 years old.
This is good news that Tampa Bay was able to bring him back because there would have been other suitors on the market for him like the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs for example. Evans was the seventh overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft by Tampa Bay.
The top wide receiver on the free agent market is off the board. For teams that will want other wide receivers, they will have to seek elsewhere.
