Craig Carton said on the Tuesday edition of his FS1 program that the Philadelphia Eagles dealt with “a problem that would splinter any group of men” which “cannot be fixed”. He also said that it would be very interesting to see if a “high-profile player is no longer with the Philadelphia Eagles going into this season”, which was implied to be Fletcher Cox.
The key reason why Fletcher Cox was implicated is because of the reports that he “questioned” Jalen Hurts about his leadership last season. However, Howard Eskin from Philadelphia’s 94WIP said that such reports were a “total exaggeration.”
What did Howard Eskin say about Fletcher Cox and the Philadelphia Eagles?
During his radio appearance on Thursday, Howard Eskin, who is the sideline reporter for the Philadelphia Eagles, provided context about the relationship between Fletcher Cox and Jalen Hurts.
“So a few players have talked to Jalen Hurts about, ‘Hey listen, you’ve got to connect more and be more emotional on the sidelines.’ A few players have done that,” explained Eskin. “The one player that’s probably more – I think the word demonstrative is probably too much of implying what’s going it – was Fletcher Cox.”
“Fletcher is a stern guy, and he was not happy with his emotion, but other players were the same way. It was not a fight, a screaming match, not any of those things, and he’s just one of the players that has talked to him. Now, let’s be clear, the team was (just) not good enough,” he added.
The last sentence was true for the Philadelphia Eagles because they fell from 10-1 to 11-6 in the regular season before losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round.
Fletcher Cox on retirement rumors
Fletcher Cox, 33, has played all 12 years of his NFL career for the Philadelphia Eagles. Because he’s approaching the twilight of his career, there have been rumors that he might retire this summer.
But in his appearance at the Up and Adams Show during Super Bowl LVIII Radio Row week, the six-time Pro Bowler said that he was taking things “day by day” regarding his future.
Last season, Cox signed a one-year, $10 million contract and managed to record 33 tackles (15 solo), five sacks, 17 quarterback hits, and two passes defended in 15 games played.
