The Philadelphia Eagles have been making tons of moves in their off season so far. Including hiring a new offensive coordinator, and being very vocal about bringing certain players back. It appears now, that Fletcher Cox will not be back after 13 seasons with the team. Cox went on Pittsburgh Steelers Cam Heyward’s podcast and shared his desire to play for the Steelers in this upcoming season. This would be a huge move for both teams and it would be the end of an era in Philly.
Philadelphia Eagles Fletcher Cox Says He Wants To Play For Steelers
Cox went on fellow elite defensive player Cam Heyward’s podcast to talk football and to talk about where the free agent Cox would want to play next season. Cox did not say the Eagles but rather he was quoted saying:
“You” – Meaning the Steelers
He continued saying how they would be an unstoppable duo together not to mention T.J. Watt on the defensive line who is arguably the best defensive player in the league.
“It’s all love,” Cox told Heyward. “Just respect that you got for the game, respect that I have for the game. The way that you play the game, the way that I play the game, like we definitely could. That would’ve been nice. We could make some things happen.”
This shocking podcast episode is a major hint to Cox’s time in Philly coming to an end. Cox has been one of the teams leaders and veterans and now it appears he will not be finishing his career with the team.
The End Of An Era In Philadelphia
The eagles are facing the end of an era with many of their leaders and veterans either leaving or retiring. Jason Kelce will probably not be back with the team next season and now Cox is hinting at making a move in free agency. Cox was beloved by the Philly fan base and he has only the best things to say about the organization that he won a Super Bowl with.
“It’s always special,” said Cox of the Core that played their entire careers together. “Those three guys always have a special place in my heart, being with those guys for over a decade. That’s hard to do. The good thing I can see is the really good job of keeping the core player together, draft picks.
He continued saying how special this group was, further hinting that his time in Philly is coming to an end.
“If I learned one thing being here my 12 years, the head man, they love the draft picks. If you do good, they take care of you. That’s what you’d expect. Those guys, we’ve won together, we’ve lost together, ups and downs together. Those are moments that you cherish and never forget. I always appreciate those guys.”
If Cox is indeed leaving it was a very special era in Philly. Looking ahead to next year, if Cox makes the move to Pittsburgh, their defense will be one of the best in the league, and they should have the best defensive line by far with studs everywhere.
