The Oregon Ducks are focused on trying to knock off Washington Huskies in the Pac-12 Championship Game. However, they are also dealing with the flurry of transfer portal news. 2023 four-star recruit Ashton Cozart announced that he will enter the transfer portal.

Oregon Ducks Lose WR Ashton Cozart To The Transfer Portal
Cozart never saw the field of the Ducks. He was red-shirted and did not play in 2023. This is likely why he is entering the portal. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound wide receiver out of the state of Texas should draw some interest. He has four years of eligibility left meaning a team could mold their future superstar wide receiver in Cozart. The talented receiver had 34 offers before choosing to come to Oregon. His decision to go into the transfer portal shows how the landscape of college football has changed.
A Whole New World
In the past, there wasn’t much a player could do if they didn’t like their situation. The portal was there but it was a long drawn-out process that involved sitting for an entire year. Players didn’t want to lose the year of playing so they would often stick it out. Now, if a player like Cozart doesn’t like the fact that he was red-shirted, he can enter the portal and find a program that will give him the playing time he desires. It is a new challenge for coaches to not just recruit the players but keep them happy in the program.
The Oregon Ducks will likely have no issue getting more talent in the building, especially with the move to the Big Ten. It’s a loss but in this college football landscape, all programs are dealing with the same issue.
