A key offensive weapon for the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a gruesome-looking injury at practice Wednesday. The Chiefs held their fourth day of practice of training camp.
The Chiefs must keep all the depth they can before Week 1 of the season. Second-year wide receiver Rahsee Rice could be suspended for his role in a high-speed crash in Dallas on Easter Weekend.
The Kansas City Chiefs have questions at WR
As previously discussed on GH, two other wide receivers could be cap casualties before Aug. 27:
Two receivers will battle to keep their jobs in training camp. Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore have underperformed for the Chiefs in recent seasons. The Chiefs would save $2.5 million by trading Toney before Aug. 27. They’d save $1.29 million by cutting or trading Moore.
With those issues present in Kansas City this summer, the Chiefs added another depth piece at receiver with the physical tools to make the 53-man roster.
Justin Watson suffered a gruesome foot injury
According to a report by KCTV 5, wide receiver Justin Watson sustained a foot injury during Wednesday’s practice:
Watson made a sliding catch and then remained down on the field during the final practice without pads for the Chiefs. The third-year Chief was checked out by team trainers, who appeared to be looking at his lower left leg. After practice, a Chiefs spokesperson said Watson injured his foot and cornerback Nazeeh Johnson hurt his knee.
Watson, a 28-year-old who had 27 catches for 460 yards in 2023, was able to walk to the tent on his own and was then carted up the hill at Missouri Western State University.
Video of the injury appeared on social media
Per video posted on X by PJ Green of Fox 4 KC, Watson’s leg appeared to bend in an unnatural way as he fell toward the turf.

Watson was a key part of the Chiefs offense last season. He recorded 27 receptions for 460 yards and three touchdowns, enough to make him the team’s third-leading receiver.
