The Green Bay Packers have completed their third day of training camp. Wednesday saw the return of wide receiver Jayden Reed to practice, albeit for just individual drills. Reed, who led the Packers with 64 receptions (a franchise record for rookie wide receivers), 793 yards, and eight touchdowns, missed the first two days with a toe injury. He suffered the injury during his youth football camp.
One player who was present at practice, but did not participate, was quarterback Jordan Love. He reported on time to training camp but is refusing to take part in any drills until he and the Packers come to an agreement on a contract extension. Both sides are confident that a deal will get done soon.

Still, the fact that Love is not out there practicing, and the lack of positive updates regarding the situation, is troubling to Packers fans. A recent report by an NFL insider is not going to do much to make those worries go way either.
NFL Insider Dianna Russini Says the Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love Are Weeks Away from a Contract Extension
In the Wednesday edition of The Scoop newsletter, which is co-written by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, there was an update on how long talks between Love and the Packers could take before they reach an agreement.
Russini, who is a senior NFL Insider for The Athletic, wrote, “I expect the Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love to strike a deal over the next few weeks of training camp, as both sides are optimistic. Based on conversations with sources, Love’s expected to become the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.”
On the one hand, it is exciting for fans to think that Love could soon become the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. On the other hand, the prospect of talks taking weeks is troublesome. As mentioned, Love has refused to practice until a deal is completed. If it is a matter of weeks until that happens, Love could miss a significant portion of training camp and the preseason.
Does Green Bay Packers Star Jordan Love Deserve to Be the Highest Paid Quarterback in the NFL?
The highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL right now are Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals and Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Both players are making $55 million per season.
Here is how Love, in his first year as a starting quarterback, compared to Lawrence in 2023, his third year as a starter:
Jordan Love | Trevor Lawrence | |
Completion % | 64.2% | 65.6% |
Passing Yards | 4,159 | 4,016 |
Touchdowns | 32 | 21 |
Interceptions | 11 | 14 |
Passer Rating | 96.1 | 88.5 |
Burrow, of course, missed most of last season with a wrist injury.
Based on the production from 2023, it certainly seems like Love should make more than Lawrence. However, it is not as simple as that.
Green Bay and Love’s agents are likely negotiating over guaranteed money and length of contract.
Hopefully that does not take as long as Russini thinks.
