During the fourth episode of Hard Knocks on Tuesday night, the New York Giants were going over draft plans and meeting with prospects in the building before the 2024 NFL Draft. At one point in the episode, Giants wide receiver coach Mike Groh had Marvin Harrison Jr., Rome Odunze, and Malik Nabers all in the same room, as if they were teammates.
Groh was asking all of them questions about certain things. No doubt, they all were the three best wide receiver prospects coming out in the 2024 NFL Draft class. The New York Giants had the sixth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. General manager Joe Schoen had a very good feeling when he went to the LSU Tigers Pro Day that Nabers was going to be available with that selection.
When Schoen met with management about draft plans on draft night, they were keeping the sixth pick if Harrison Jr. or Nabers was still available. Had they both been gone, the New York Giants would have traded back thinking Odunze would still be available.
New York Giants Wide Receiver Coach Mike Groh Made Comment About the Rookie Wide Receivers
After Groh spoke with the wide receivers, owner John Mara asked him which one he would take if he had to choose. Mike Groh told Mara that Malik Nabers would be the one. Mara found that a little surprising. Marvin Harrison Jr.’s Dad, Marvin Harrison Sr. played in the NFL.
One of the reasons why the New York Giants may have liked Nabers better than Harrison Jr. is because of the dog that Malik Nabers had in him. He and head coach Brian Daboll have very similar personalities when it comes to winning and losing. Harrison Jr. is no doubt going to be a great player in the NFL and help out the Arizona Cardinals and Kyler Murray this season.
However, it just seemed as if the New York Giants liked Malik Nabers a little bit more than him. The Giants were probably not the only team during the draft and scouting process who liked Nabers over Harrison Jr. We will see as time goes on who will be the better wide receiver. Odunze will also be a good wide receiver in the NFL with the Chicago Bears. He hopes to be the number one wide receiver eventually for Caleb Williams.
However, it has been some time since the New York Giants had a game-breaker. Malik Nabers will be their game-breaker like Odell Beckahm Jr. was for them years ago and maybe it will help Daniel Jones revive his NFL career but we will see about it.
