With the Washington Commanders signing Dan Quinn just a couple days ago, Bill Belichick will officially not be a Head Coach for the 2024 NFL season. All teams that were shopping for a new Head Coach have selected a man for thier respective franchises. The New England Patriots and Belichick decided to part ways after the 2023 season due to multiple disappointing seasons.
Belichick is one of the most successful coaches of all time, head coaching the Patriots from 2000-2023 and winning 6 Super Bowls with the franchise. The superstar quarterback for those teams in Tom Brady shared his thoughts on Belichick not receiving a head coaching position for a different team.
Tom Brady “Surprised” Teams Signed Other Head Coaches over Bill Belichick
When asked about Belichick not being signed by a different team on his podcast “Let’s Go with Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray”, Brady had some thoughts on his former Head Coach being passed on.
I don’t know the criteria for hiring these guys. I have never been apart of it… I mean I’m surprised that the greatest coach ever doesn’t have a job. Absolutely, but you know, I’m surprised (about) a lot of things in the NFL. When I was a free agent, not a lot of teams wanted me.”
Outside of Belichick being out of a job, Brady has called out the NFL since retiring saying that the coaching and development of young players isn’t where it once was. Which is most likely on the list on things that surprises Brady about today’s game. Brady was 42 years old when he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent and won another Super Bowl with his new franchise.
Will Belichick Be Seen in 2024 After Not Receiving NFL Head Coaching Job?
Belichick’s age could be a factor considering he is turning 72 years old in April, but one of the most successful coaches of all time not receiving an opportunity raises eyeballs. Despite not being able to Head Coach another franchise, there are multiple coordinator positions still open for Belichick to interview for if he chooses.
The Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins still have defensive coordinator positions available and both teams need a proven winner. The Cowboys recently interviewed former New York Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan for their open position. If Belichick still wants to be a part of a franchise as a coach, odds are he will find one considering his success.
