Dan Quinn is now officially the Washington Commanders’ head coach, and as he bids farewell to the Dallas Cowboys, he also delivered a bold promise that will get the fans from the nation’s capital really excited.
Quinn is taking over a Commanders team that ranked dead last in defense in 2023. Sure enough, there’s a lot of work waiting for him as he looks to lead the franchise’s turnaround. Despite that, however, he is focused on his mission of transforming the team to a Super Bowl contender.
Dan Quinn’s Parting Message for Dallas Cowboys, Promise for Washington Commanders
On Saturday, the Commanders officially named Quinn as their head coach. The team shared a press release confirming the hiring, including a statement from the former Cowboys defensive coordinator himself.
Quinn shared his excitement in taking over the Commanders, adding that right from the start, their mission is to become a Super Bowl contender in the years to come. It surely won’t be easy, but Quinn is more than ready for the challenge.
He also made sure to bid his farewell and show appreciate to the Cowboys, with whom he served as DC under head coach Mike McCarthy from 2021 to 2023.
“I am thrilled for the opportunity to become the next head coach of such a storied franchise and fanbase. Under the leadership of Josh Harris, the ownership group, and Adam Peters, we cannot wait to help usher in a new era of Washington Commanders football. The organization has an outstanding vision, and I’m honored to be a part of what’s next,” Quinn said.
“I want to thank Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, Coach Mike McCarthy, and the entire Dallas Cowboys organization for the past three seasons. The players, coaching staff, and everyone across the organization became family in such a short time. We have a great task ahead of us, but the ownership group, Adam, and I are lockstep in putting in the work to achieve our goal: consistently competing for Super Bowls year in and year out.”
That’s certainly what Commanders fans want to hear from their new head coach. Hopefully, though, the team will be able to feel his impact soon.
For a franchise that has only made the playoffs five times over the last 23 years, there’s naturally a ton of desire to see the team compete in the postseason again. Now, the pressure is on Quinn to deliver.
Is Dan Quinn the Right Coach for the Washington Commanders?
Dan Quinn has been one of the premier head coaching candidates for years now. Thanks to his work with the Dallas Cowboys, he has had made a lot of buzz in the coaching market.
It’s also not surprising to see the Washington Commanders hire him, especially since defense is their biggest weakness. Under Quinn, the Cowboys were a Top 5 defensive team in 2023. And sure enough, he’s more than capable of doing the same thing in Washington.
He also has plenty of coaching experience, having served as the Atlanta Falcons’ head coach from 2015 to 2020, making the postseason twice in that span.
Of course the big question is if the Commanders will be able to quickly buy in to Quinn’s system. If they do, it’s not hard to see the Washington franchise competing for a playoff spot.
