The NFL had record breaking viewership for this divisional round of football, and their most viewed game of this week and in the divisional round history was the Kansas City Chiefs against the Buffalo Bills. The game brought in a record breaking 50.3 million viewers with a high of 56 millions viewers at one point in the game.
This broke the most viewers in any divisional round game in history and further pushed the notion that the NFL is bigger than ever in 2024. The game was not just incredibly popular nationally though, as Canada brought in a massive views for this game, perhaps with them being fans of the Bills. The game delivered just over 4 million viewers from Canada and this is a huge sign for things to come in the international world for the NFL.
Football is not the most popular sport in Canada but the fans there tuned in in the millions to watch this game. It was a spectacular game with both Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Patrick Mahames putting on great performances, but as it has always been in playoff history, Mahomes came out on top… again.
The NFL Has Reached Canada
The numbers in viewership coming from Canada continues to further the narrative that the NFL wants to get more global. There was no better game than the Kansas City Chiefs against the Buffalo Bills, as having so many stars playing goes along way in many fans in the country and out tuning in to watch greatness.
Travis Kelce performed for all 50 million viewers and the 4 million in Canada having his best game of the year exactly when the Chiefs needed it. Mahomes came to play as well as he continues his historic playoff dominance basically beating everyone except for Tom Brady in his playoff career so far.
Will Baltimore Ravens Vs Kansas City Chiefs Bring In More International Viewers
The Buffalo Bills were probably a huge reason as to why the viewers in Canada were so massive, but the AFC championship matchup could also bring in tons of international viewers as a Lamar Jackson vs Patrick Mahomes should definitely have the fans tuning in.
Either way, it is a great sign for the league that they are having record breaking numbers and it is even better to see so many fans tuning in from outside the US. This is just the beginning as the league has had plans of expanding into many international communities and they have been doing many more international games as of late. Seeing 4 million viewers tune in from Canada will continue to catapult the NFL to becoming a more international sport.
