With the 2023-24 season coming to a close in the next few weeks, finalists for the Associated Press’ NFL Honors awards have officially been announced. Including five nominees in contention for this year’s MVP award.
NFL Honors: AP Most Valuable Player Selected Finalists for 2023-24 Season
Finalists for this seasons MVP award include Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Christian McCaffrey, Dak Prescott and Brock Purdy. Four of the five nominees selected are quarterbacks and the last time a non-quarterback was selected as the most valuable player was back in 2012, where running back Adrian Peterson ran for just under 2,100 yards in that season.
AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year Selected Nominees
The nominees for AP Offensive Player of the Year include Christian McCaffrey, Tyreek Hill, Lamar Jackson, Ceedee Lamb and Dak Prescott. Multiple players have been nominated for this award in the past, but were not fortunate to take it home. Any of the selected nominees will be winning this award for the first time.
AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year Selected Nominees
Myles Garrett, DaRon Bland, Maxx Crosby, Micah Parsons and T.J Watt were selected as nominees for Defensive Player of the Year. The last 3 winners for this award belong in the front seven which include 4 of this year’s finalists. The last time a cornerback won was Stephon Gilmore in 2020 when he was with the New England Patriots.
AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Selected Nominees
The standout rookies selected for Offensive Rookie of the Year are C.J Stroud, Sam LaPorta, Jahmyr Gibbs, Puka Nacua and Bijan Robinson. The last two winners for this award have been wide receivers and Puka Nacua broke the record for most receptions and yards by a rookie wide receiver. Quarterback CJ Stroud is also a front-runner for leading the Hoston Texans to the divisional round of the playoffs.

Finalists for Defensive Rookie of the Year include Will Anderson Jr, Devon Witherspoon, Jalen Carter, Joey Porter and Kobie Turner. Four of the last five winners for this award have come from the front 7 and interior lineman Jalen Carter is the current front-runner, who put up 6 sacks and 2 forced fumbles with the Philadelphia Eagles this season.
AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year Selected Nominees
Damar Hamlin, Matthew Stafford, Tua Tagovailoa, Joe Flacco and Baker Mayfield round out the nominees for Comeback Player of the Year. The last five winners for this award have been quarterbacks and there are four quarterbacks who were named as finalists. Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who is also a nominee returned to football action after suffering cardiac arrest on the field last season.
AP NFL Coach of the Year Selected Nominees
The head coaches selected for this seasons Coach of the Year award include Dan Campbell, John Harbaugh, DeMeco Ryans, Kyle Shanahan and Kevin Stefanski. Three of these coaches are still in contention for a Super Bowl in Dan Campbell, John Harbaugh and Kyle Shanahan. Two of which will face each other in the NFC Championship game on Sunday.
However, Kevin Stefanski is the heavy favorite for this award considering he helped lead the Cleveland Browns to the playoffs behind four different starting quarterbacks this season.
