Free agent QB Colin Kaepernick is still waiting to learn if he’ll play a seventh NFL season in 2017.

The former quarterback is creating an AI startup that is backed by Seven Seven Six according to The Wall Street Journal‘s Andrew Beaton. Seven Seven Six is a venture capital firm that is run by the Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and the plan is for their new AI to help creators with tools that are beyond their reach. Lumi Story AI is now in business:

“It allows us to help fill in the skill gaps of creators,” Kaepernick said. “We are now building in that direction to try to open that up and democratize storytelling.”

Per the Wall Street Journal, Kaepernick has been pursuing AI for quite some time now, after he faced numerous adversities in his main goal of creating media companies. In the article, there is an example of a graphic novelist using the AI to illustrate their writing and how the platform will work to help creators.

The beta version of Lumi was launched on Wednesday and it is centered around Comics style work, but the plans are to expand the told that can be used and even end up allowing for users to create and sell products on it.

With the star of his new business venture, Kaepernick addressed that there are concerns about integrating AI into the work force, and how the new technologies can put tons of humans out of work. Kaepernick believes that his company will be for empowering creators.

“We look at it as AI should be empowering and enhancing creators,” Kaepernick said.

Kaepernick has been out of the league for almost a decade since protesting police brutality in the U.S. during the national anthem back in 2016. While there were moments it seemed that Kaepernick could make a return NFL when he worked out for a few teams since then. However, it never worked out with any team, and now the activist is taking on a new business venture.

This is now another major business move that Kaepernick has made since he created his publishing company back in 2019.

“to elevate a new generation of writers with diverse views and voices.” Kaepernick has written children’s picture books such as “I Color Myself Different.”

We will have to wait and see what will come from his new AI company, and as the beta version is out, it won’t be long till the full version is up and running.
