New York Jets Trade for Davante Adams Is a “Done Deal” According to Former NFL Quarterback

Ever since the New York Jets acquired Aaron Rodgers in a trade with the Green Bay Packers prior to the 2023 NFL season, there have been discussions in the media regarding Davante Adams joining him. The two, of course, were teammates on the Packers from 2014-2021 and set numerous records together. The problem with a possible reunion between the two, of course, is that Adams is currently under contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, who acquired him in a trade with the Packers back in 2022.

Still, the idea of the All-Pro wide receiver reuniting with the four-time NFL MVP quarterback is not a thought that has gone away easily. The Raiders’ struggles on offense, particularly at the quarterback position, are well-known. Rodgers’ desire to play with Adams is also common knowledge around the NFL.

Former NFL Quarterback Dan Orlovsky Says a Davante Adams Trade to the New York Jets Is a “Done Deal”

During Tuesday’s episode of “Get Up” on ESPN, former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky stated that he believes an Adams trade to the Jets to reunite with Rodgers is a “done deal.”

“I think Davante Adams plays for the Jets this season. The reason why I say that is this: Have you watched Netflix, the ‘Receiver’ stuff, have you seen the frustration from Davante Adams? It’s not that much better of a situation (now.) The only reason it wouldn’t happen is if he would feel bad about leaving Antonio Pierce, their new head coach.”

The popular Netflix documentary has shown Adams visibly frustrated with the Raiders’ offense and revealed the fact that he signed off of the benching of former quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

There is, indeed, a great deal of external noise about Adams being traded. Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss recently told Kay Adams on the “Up and Adams” podcast that he thinks Davante should go chase a ring with Rodgers.

The Jets’ quarterback himself was recently filmed saying that he “can’t wait” to play with Adams again. Boomer Esiason even predicted that a trade will go down at the end of August or the beginning of September.

New York Jets Fans Should Not Expect a Davante Adams Trade

Despite the rumors and what has been viewed on the Receiver documentary, it does not seem like the Raiders are interested in shopping Adams, nor is he pursuing a trade. The wide receiver’s agents recently released a statement saying, “This is baseless, unfounded speculation and Davante is expected to be with the Raiders as there has been absolutely no trade talk – period.”

Aside from the Raiders and Adams both shooting down the idea that he is trying to force a trade to the Jets, there is also the fact that New York cannot currently afford him that would hold up any possible deal. Next season, though, Adams could become a cap casualty in Las Vegas.

If Rodgers is back in New York next season (and he needs to play well in order to do so), perhaps a reunion could happen in 2025.
