Las Vegas Raiders WR Davante Adams Appears To Have Threatened Team About QB Situation In 2023

The dynamics of the Las Vegas Raiders were out of whack in 2023. After a few key decisions made this offseason, they might not be any better in 2024. A clip of wide receiver Davante Adams from Netflix’s Receiver illustrates how weak management is in Las Vegas.

The Raiders were in such turmoil last season that they fired head coach Josh McDaniels after eight games. The team had a come-to-Jesus meeting with McDaniels before he was ultimately canned, and Antonio Pierce was named their interim head coach.

As Vic Tafur with The Athletic noted in January, star pass rusher Maxx Crosby pushed this offseason for the Raiders to hire Pierce as their permanent head coach.

“I want to be a Raider … but if we go in a different direction, there is nothing that is off the table,” said Crosby on his podcast.

Crosby isn’t the only star on the team making big brass decisions.

Davante Adams wanted Jimmy Garoppolo benched

Per a transcription of Adams’ comments on Receiver by Michael David Smith of NBC Sports, the All-Pro said he signed off on the decision to bench quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo last year:

“Well, my opinion on that was that I signed off on that, and that’s just the reality of it,” Adams said.

Adams didn’t explain exactly what he meant by “I signed off,” but it would seem to suggest that Raiders coach Antonio Pierce asked Adams’ opinion, and Adams told Pierce to bench Garoppolo for Aidan O’Connell.

As previously discussed on GH, Adams was unhappy with his use on the Raiders offense last year. He believed he was getting hit too hard in each game, and it seems he was unhappy with Garoppolo putting him in precarious situations.

I got to get the f— out of here before I lose my f—ing life. I have never been hit this many f—ing times in my career. Every game I get f—ed up,” Adams said.

Per Smith, while Adams didn’t specify how he signed off on getting Garoppolo benched, he did say something like Garoppolo’s benching had to occur for him to stay with Las Vegas:

“I love Jimmy. He’s a great guy, but something had to happen in order for us to have a chance down the stretch, and for me to remain a Raider, in all honesty,” Adams said.

In the business world, the Raiders’ situation would be considered a cluster[four-letter word beginning with “F”].

The Raiders ultimately hired Pierce as their full-time head coach. Pierce advocated for drafting a rookie quarterback this year. The Raiders’ new general manager, Tom Telesco, who did not hire Pierce, disagreed with Pierce’s vision for the team and drafted tight end Brock Bowers in the first round.

The Raiders are set to have a quarterback battle between Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew. Both quarterbacks had a lousy spring at OTAs.

What will Adams and Crosby say if things start slowly this season, and should the Raiders front office listen this time?
