Ever since the New York Jets acquired four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers via trade from the Green Bay Packers, there has been much speculation about which former teammates he would team up with on his new team. Of course, several of Rodgers’ teammates from Green Bay joined him in New York last season, including wide receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb.
Unfortunately, none of his former Packers’ teammates performed well for the Jets last season. Adrian Amos and Tim Boyle were released before the 2023 NFL season even ended. Billy Turner and Cobb will not be re-signed, leaving Lazard as the only Rodgers teammate left from his time with the Packers.
Of course, the former Packers player that many would love to see team up with Rodgers in New York is All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, who currently plays for the Las Vegas Raiders.
New York Jets Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Has Been Trying to Recruit Davante Adams

While Rodgers has denied having a list of players that he would like to play with on the Jets, it is no secret that he has been heavily involved in New York’s roster decisions. Even before he agreed to be traded to the Jets, they had signed Lazard and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett in an effort to help lure him to New York.
One player that has long been rumored to be on the alleged list is Davante Adams, who played with Rodgers in Green Bay from 2014-2021. Recently, the All-Pro wide receiver confirmed that his former quarterback has “been in my ear” about joining forces again.
During the American Century Championship, all Rodgers would say is “I can’t wait to play with [Davante] again.”
Both of these comments have spurred speculation that Adams could be traded to the Jets. However, it is also worth noting that Rodgers’ former number one pass catcher has also stated he is a Raider and is currently content with where he is.
Former New York Jets Quarterback Boomer Esiason Reveals Date for Possible Davante Adams Trade

On Monday, former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason revealed that if a trade does happen that would reunite the All-Pro wide receiver with Rodgers, it will happen in late August or early September:
“The dead cap for the Raiders this year is $40 million [if they traded Adams]. I’m hearing that this is going to happen – if it does happen – in late August or early September. And the cap hit for him is $25 million.”
This, of course, would be right at the end of the preseason/the start of the regular season. At that point, both teams will have a clearer picture of what their 53-man rosters will look like.
It does seem improbable that such a deal will take place, though. While Adams would certainly give the Jets’ offense a boost in their quest to win a Super Bowl during their very small window, the Raiders view the All-Pro as a key component of their current and future team.
