Mac Jones used to give the New England Patriots hope that there’s life after Tom Brady. In his first season in the NFL back in 2021, Jones, who was selected 15th overall in that same year’s draft, passed for nearly 4,000 yards and 22 touchdowns against 13 interceptions, while also earning a nod for the Pro Bowl. It hasn’t been that great again since for Jones, to say the least. It’s gotten so bad that he’s already being rumored as a trade candidate for the Patriots in the 2024 offseason.
Is The End Of Mac Jones’ Time With The New England Patriots Coming?
And with the 2024 NFL Draft pick coming up, with the New England Patriots in a great spot to select a top-tier quarterback prospect, the potential of the team to part ways with the former Alabama Crimson Tide signal-caller has only gotten louder.
For Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald, he can still see Jones with the Patriots after training camp, but likely without a bright outlook as the team’s QB1 and only as a mere asset waiting to get traded.
“I think he can come back from training camp, Michael, but it’s only to serve him as a piece of trade bait for later on, right? Guys get hurt. You find an open market. Maybe it’s the end of August. Another team goes, ‘We could plug and play with him for a couple of weeks until our guy comes back mid season.’That’s it. If the Patriots don’t like the price now and they are exploring trade talks for Mac Jones.”

Jones has his fifth-year option for the 2025 season yet to be picked up by the Patriots, and based on the latest trade chatter, it doesn’t seem that the AFC East franchise will be picking that up.
Jones is still just 25 years old and probably just needs a new football environment for a resurgence.
