The Miami Dolphins won their first game of the 2024 NFL regular season 20-17 over their in-state rivals, the Jacksonville Jaguars. One of the stars of the game was All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who had seven receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown.
As fans are well aware, if the Miami Dade Police Department had had their way, Hill would not have played at all. Hours before the game started, Hill was pulled over and arrested by police officers for a traffic violation. Fans leaked footage of the arrest on social media as it was happening, and the MDPD released its bodycam footage on Monday.
The incident has caused quite the stir online and in the media.
Fans and Analysts Are Livid at the Way Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill Was Treated
As is the case whenever an incident with police officers goes awry and/or is heavily covered by the media, both the department and individual involved (in his case, Hill) have different versions of what happened. Fortunately, the bodycam footage is undeniable evidence of what really happened:

As one can see from the video, Hill does not roll down his window when prompted to by overly aggressive officers. When they force his car door open, he is grabbed by the back of his neck, thrown on the ground, and placed in handcuffs.
Officers then go off and threaten two of Hill’s teammates who had pulled over to try and deescalate the situation.
“If this is how they treat millionaire NFL player Tyreek Hill with the whole world watching, what do you think happens to regular people when no one’s looking?” journalist Dylan Allman posted on X. “They didn’t de-escalate, they instigated. And that’s their job, isn’t it? To handle situations without turning them into an all-out show of force.
“But here’s the ugly truth: police aren’t trained to protect you, they’re trained to control you. They don’t work for the people, they work for the state. And in that system, the badge is a license to dominate, not serve.”
Other people, though, blame Hill for not complying with the officers’ commands right away.
One retired NYPD detective, though, shared his thoughts on the situation and the view that Hill is to blame:
My thoughts on the #TyreekHill arrest/detention
As a police officer, half the battle is de escalation.
Write the summons. You’re walking away from the vehicle. Who cares if he puts his window up? You have his ID.

As people on social media are apt to do, they took it upon themselves to do some digging into the officers that could be identified on the video. What they found about one of them, if it is true, is disturbing.
NFL Fans Find Some Disturbing Information About a Police Officer Involved in the Arrest of Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill
If one listens to the audio of the bodycam footage closely, one can hear Hill accuse the officers of being racist. Of course, the officers deny it.
However, internet detectives found some disturbing background information about one of them:
ALLEGEDLY: this is one of the cops that was abusing his authority on Tyreek Hill, Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith.
Officer Manuel Batista.

Manuel Batista the cop who attacked Tyreek Hill is part of the Racist Cuban Cop Mafia in Florida whose families came to America for freedom but are racist haters of Black people. Some have African DNA like this scumbag and seek acceptance from whites by brutalizing Black people. pic.twitter.com/AF1YV7Yiu0

Manuel Batista from Miami. Used to work at Walgreens 4 years ago. Now it’s a cop.
It all makes sense. All of it. https://t.co/W1vLXxwiE0

None of the above posts have been confirmed by public records, so there is a chance that none of it is true. However, the situation involving Hill and the Miami police officers is not going away any time soon.
There is sure to be more information coming out soon.
