The Miami Dolphins are getting ready to kick off their 2024 regular season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This morning, players were making their way to Hard Rock Stadium. However, Tyreek Hill had an unexpected interruption on his way there. Read below to find out what happened and if Hill will still play in today’s game.
Tyreek Hill Arrested Hours Before Kickoff
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill was arrested hours before kickoff for a driving violation. Further reports revealed that Hill was pulled over speeding and is apparently being charged with reckless driving.
This is bad timing because the Dolphins have a 1:05 p.m. EST kickoff time today. So, some fans and football bettors may be concerned that Hill will not make it out in time for said kickoff.
However, Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is reassuring these people that Hill will still play today. This is what Rosenhaus said to Schefter about Hill’s status:
“I just left Tyreek and he is getting ready to play today.” -Drew Rosenhaus
Big Weapon
Tyreek Hill is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL. Last season, he made a case for NFL MVP and was attempting to break Calvin Johnson’s single-season receiving yards record. Hill ended up coming just short of that record but still having an impressive 1,799 receiving yards. He has over 10,000 receiving yards in his career.
Hill spent his first six years of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs and helped them win Super Bowl LIV. However, his highest receiving yards stats have come with the Miami Dolphins. Hill has over 1,700 receiving yards in each of his two seasons with the Dolphins. He did not eclipse 1,500 receiving yards in any of his seasons with the Chiefs.
Miami Dolphins Moving Forward
So, what do the Miami Dolphins do now? They have no choice but to move forward and continue to prepare for their epic clash against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This morning, they were field goal favorites against the Jaguars. Now, Hill’s arrest could potentially change that morning line.
There is a lot of pressure on the Dolphins to have a good season this year. Miami has not won a playoff game in 24 years and head coach Mike McDaniel has become obsessed with changing that narrative. Miami has to hope Hill’s arrest does not interfere with this goal.
