On his way to Hard Rock Stadium for the Miami Dolphins’ first game of the 2024 season, star wide receiver Tyreek Hill was pulled over and detained by Miami-Dade County police for a driving violation.
Hill was taken out of his car by the police and forced to the ground before police issued two traffic citations. They let Hill go and he was able to play in the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The South Florida Police Association released a statement on the Tyreek Hill incident
An officer involved in the detainment of Hill was almost immediately placed on administrative leave following the incident according to a statement from the director of Miami-Dade County police in an article from US Magazine.
“Following the incident involving Tyreek Hill, I have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation to ensure a thorough review of the matter,” Miami-Dade Police Department Director Stephanie V. Daniels said in a Sunday, September 8 statement. “One of the officers involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duties while the investigation is conducted.”
Despite the officer being placed on administrative leave, the South Florida Police Benevolent Association released a statement saying Hill’s lack of cooperation is what led to the escalation of the situation.
The statement, from a Pro Football Talk article, says Hill refused to comply with orders and that is why he was pulled from his vehicle and forced to the ground.
“Before the Dolphins game yesterday, an incident occurred where Tyreek Hill was placed in handcuffs before being released,” Steadman Stahl, the president of the South Florida Police Benevolent Association, said in a statement. “First, to be clear, at no time was he ever under arrest. He was briefly detained for officer safety after driving in a manner in which he was putting himself and others in great risk of danger.
“Upon being stopped, Mr. Hill was not immediately cooperative with the officers on the scene who, pursuant to policy and for their immediate safety, placed Mr. Hill in handcuffs. Mr. Hill, still uncooperative, refused to sit on the ground and was therefore redirected to the ground.
“Once the situation was sorted out within a few minutes, Mr. Hill was issued two traffic citations and was free to leave.
“We would like to stress to the community to use this as an opportunity to remember that it is always best to obey lawful policy commands first and complain later. We have worked hard across all communities to bridge the gap between what people believe law enforcement should and can do, and will continue to do so. In this case, while we will wait for the investigation to run its course, based on what we know, we stand with the actions of our officers but look forward to further open communication moving forward.
“While we are confident in the actions that led to the stop of Mr. Hill, as with any investigation, we will wait for all the facts to come out, along with any explanation Mr. Hill may have for his actions that initiated this unfortunate incident.”
Bodycam footage of the Tyreek Hill incident was released
The Monday following the incident involving Hill, Miami-Dade County police decided to release the bodycam footage of the incident.
The footage sparked a great deal of controversy on social media, causing many fans to turn on the police involved.
Some fans, like the South Florida Police Association, think Hill was responsible for the escalation of the incident while other fans think the police involved were on a “power trip.”
Tyreek literally handed him his license and registration, and the cops got upset he wouldn’t roll his window all the way down, wh8ch by law he doesn’t have to do. They should all be fired

Cops on power trips are the most dangerous people in the world

As one of the few lawyers in this country who has tried federal civil rights cases in federal court, this IS a civil rights violation. The first officer was within the the bounds of the law. The second officer broke policies, rules and rights.
The police union is the most…
