After having success in Houston this season, the Dolphins are planning to interview Texans linebacker Coach Chris Kiffin for their open defensive coordinator position. Kiffin, who is the son of longtime NFL assistant coach Monte Kiffin and brother of Ole’ Miss Head Coach Lane Kiffin, helped lead a Texans defense along with first year Head Coach DeMeco Ryans to the playoffs.
Texans Defeated the Cleveland Browns in 2024 Wildcard Game
Houston defeated the Cleveland Browns in the wildcard round of the play with a score of 45-14 and multiple players on the front seven came away with turnovers. The Browns are the former team of Kiffin, who was their defensive line coach from 2020-2022 before joining Ryans and his staff in Houston.
Despite losing to the Baltimore Ravens in the next round of the playoffs, the Texans far and away exceeded expectations on both sides of the ball which has elevated Kiffin into promotion talks with other teams. Miami is the newest franchise with interest.
Miami Dolphins Lose to Kansas City Chiefs in Wildcard Round of 2024 Playoffs
While the Dolphins had a 10-3 record heading into the final stretch of regular season games, they were not able to finish strong and ended with a 11-6 record. Miami also lost the division title after the Buffalo Bills beat them by a touchdown in the final regular season game.
The Dolphins suffered multiple season-ending injuries to key players on the defensive side of the ball including Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips. Miami also did not have Jalen Ramsey for the first half of the season after acquiring him from the Los Angeles Rams.
With Fangio out of the mix and key players recovering, there is a chance at a fresh slate for Miami this off-season on the defensive side of the ball. Kiffin is planned to meet with the Dolphins front office on Friday.
