Grayson McCall tossed three touchdowns and rushed for another score in a 38-28 win over Army on Saturday. McCall’s stellar performance in front of a record crowd of 21,165 at Brooks Stadium put the Chanticleers at 1-0 to start the 2022 season. McCall was 12 of 17 for 174 yards in the air while adding another 27 yards on the ground.

Senior running back Reese White led the rushing attack with 21 carries for 133 yards and a touchdown. CJ Beasley contributed 91 yards on 19 carries.

Down 7-0 early on, McCall led back-to-back scoring drives to end the first quarter and to start the second taking a 14-7 lead. McCall hit White out of the backfield for a 6-yard score while Sam Pinckney made a diving catch in the endzone to cap off the back-to-back scoring drives.

The Chanticleers defense made some clutch plays down the stretch. Senior safety Tavyn Jackson made a leaping interception near midfield to preserve a 24-21 lead entering the 4th quarter.

McCall added his rushing touchdown with 3:01 remaining in the game to take a 38-28 lead. The Chanticleers forced a four-and-out with 1:36 left in the game to propel them to 1-0 on the year.

Coastal Carolina fans expect big things this year. The Chants are one out of 10 teams in all of FBS to total 20-plus wins combined over the past two years (2020 and 2021).
