BYU struggling to win but also struggling to make football seem worth watching. As the song says “Loyal, Strong, and True” is what the fans need to be right now. After a winless October and things going downhill quicker than many thought how can fans look forward to the game each week?

BYU Struggling
The Cougars came out swinging and did it in a big way to start the season 2-0. Also, some big plays had fans only confirming what people were saying about the program. Then came the struggles they lose to Oregon in Eugene with some miss ques and the defensive play-calling looking like a high school team. Fans wondered if this was just one game and hoped that it was one game. With two barely wins against Wyoming and Utah State to come next the fans saw hope and thought they were turning it around.
Notre Dame is where the tunnel went from short to long and many wanted the coaching to step their game up. That Saturday in Las Vegas made me then question what the Cougars were doing on defense and if we should have switched quarterbacks to let the starter heal. Arkansas just came out and made us really look like at G5 school and one who was not ready to make the jump to P5. These last two loses one to Liberty and the other to East Carolina have made me wonder if the players want to play and also if they want to win another game this year.

BYU struggling will only get worse if they don’t want to go out and fight every week. Only so many coaching changes can happen if the captains can’t lead on that field. Many are working on the field but the sideline shouldn’t be quiet or with no one getting in each others faces. They don’t talk, or even show that they want to try and get each other back in the game. The Cougars have Boise State, Utah Tech, and Stanford left these games will prove if BYU can over come adversity of this size or if they will continue to struggle.
Loyal
Loyal no matter what growing up in Utah I went to home games and we didn’t leave early no matter. If it was bad weather or if they were up by 50 points. We also didn’t leave early if we were losing and knew they weren’t coming back to win. Its hard to watch fans leave early being a student athlete you notice it and its hard. If you go stay no matter what. Maybe BYU will suprise you and have a big play or you will run into a player and get a photo.

BYU Football
These guys live for a game each Saturday and part of that is the fan base BYU brings with them every where. So even if they end up behind when that clock strikes zero remeber that they see how many fans are left. This is a big game for the Cougars not just becaues they want a win but because its a rvivalry game and who knows when it will played again. The blue turf has never been great memories for the Cougars but that doesn’t mean you should skip the game.
Just remember that crazy things happen in November for the Cougars and many years they have won out so maybe thats a sign that they will turn it around. Also remember that things don’t change over night.
Strong
Strong is there for those who want to see it. I see these players fighting when they are on the field. No they aren’t perfect I watched games this weekend that the team that won had no chance going into it. These boys need the right thing said to them to pick them back up and bring the fire back to the locker room.
Many are playing through injury and probably shouldn’t be on that field but that is true strength and should be appreciated. Watching these younger boys though step up and try to figure out how to play the game at this level is even more exciting because as they struggle it will help them grow and one day look like a Wilgar or a Tooley. When Roberts and Epps stepped up because Romney and Nacua were out was great and they showed strength.

Fans look for those moments in this season and thats how you are going to survive the rest. Win or Lose be there if you can to support and watch the younger players evolve.
True
A true fan doesn’t leave early, or call them out personally on social media, they also never lose faith in their team. This is hard and we have all experienced this twice in the Sitake era as BYU has had two seasons where the team has struggled to win ball games.
Don’t forget that when you tag them on social media that they see that and then they take that too heart. If you do end up tagging them keep it positive and don’t tear them down no matter how well they played in the game. Seeing many players and their families on social media mentions this hurts my heart. As a student athlete I would never want this on my feed if I messed up in a game. I’m sure you wouldn’t either so remember that those games are what they love and this sport is there way out of life so don’t bring life back into it.
