BYU loses to Arkansas making this the second week in a row after defensive mistakes and an offensive that can’t throw the ball consistently. The defensive coordinator needs help executing his game plan every week. Turnovers also didn’t help BYU had only lost two all season until last night when they lost two just in one game.
Players who Stood out
Blake Freeland
Showing his NFL talent yesterday when blocking for the run game and trying to keep the defenders from Hall. He helped hold Arkansas to zero sacks yesterday.
Gabe Jeudy-Lally
Stepping up and still playing defense when the defense isn’t sure what to do. He finished yesterday with seven tackles.
Isaac Rex
Rex is back and looking good. Not even a year after the gruesome injury he is balling out and keeping the Cougars using the tight ends.
Players with a Great Game
Puka Nacua
Nacua is looking good and was rolling yesterday. He has been carrying the offense on his back when he is in the game.
Kody Epps
New top wide receiver for the Cougars. Epps has stepped up when Nacua or Romney couldn’t play and has distinguished himself as a top receiver going forward.
Players who Struggled
Jaren Hall
Hall needs to heal and the only way to do that is to bench him. I see nothing wrong with putting Conover in because Hall has struggled to throw the ball consistently more than 20 yards to past two weeks. The Cougars can’t trust their run game to win them games this season because they don’t have a running back who can establish the running game.
Talan Alfrey
Alfrey looked awful yesterday on defense. He didn’t know how to adjust when Arkansas got past the line of scrimmage.
Takeaways
Offense
3rd downs is how you win games. The offense went 7-13 yesterday its not great and definitely won’t be getting you many wins in the future. When your quarterback can’t throw the ball more than 20 yards down the field and hit his target also doesn’t help.
Defense
The DC needs to go its time that the Cougars bring in someone who knows what they are doing. They need a game plan every week but they also need a leader who can step up and fix things when they aren’t working. The Cougars let Arkansas put up 600 yards yesterday that is unacceptable.
Special Teams
Thanks for at least being consistent. No the kicking game isn’t great but the return game and the punting game are the only thing looking like its ready for the Big 12.
