BYU kicked off the 2022 season after a 2 1/2 hour rain delay. Then they came out just running and never stopped. It only took them 11 seconds to score after the opening kickoff. The offense showed up ready to play and they never let the Bull’s defense stop moving last night. The defense also came out and on a great night, they played strong and fought hard. “I thought we did a lot of good things, we have a couple of things we will need to get fixed,” BYU coach Kalani Sitake said. “But overall I was happy with our performance and with the way we handled the delay.” Overall the offense put up 575 yards and 337 in the first half. College Football is back! BYU comes away with a 50-21 victory

Takeaways
The defense got sloppy in the second half. After coming out and just playing lights-out football in the first half the defense got sloppy. They gave up some big plays in the second half allowing South Florida to put up some more points.
Jaren Hall had a great night. Hall completed 25 passes and threw for 261 yards and one touchdown last night.
Special teams need some work. The tackling just wasn’t it for special teams last night. Missed tackles and giving up yards and then some penalties led to some work needing to be done on special teams.

Fun game, atmosphere and South Florida fans were very nice people across the board. During the game delay, USF and BYU fans were gathered together in the Buccaneer Stadium Club, seen conversing w/each other, kids playing games, men drinking beers… wait! Not the blue clad men, but Coke and Sprite were flowing freely with them too. 😉
Ms. Tayla-Ann Wright,
What you posted on Sunday is what Coach Sitake said at Monday’s gameweek press Conference. He said Special Teams needed to clean up, play fundamental football.
He didn’t highlight the defensive Units general sloppiness as you characterize it.
He did say that younger less savvy, less understanding, less experienced with less Confidence Players received some Repetitions on the Field because BYU’s Starters played so well in the 1st Half. “That benefits the depth on our Team” Sitake said.
BYU playing undeveloped Players in real games gave USF Bulls some opportunities which no 1st String would Not exploit.
