After another season of the Buffalo Bills falling short of fulfilling their Super Bowl aspirations, the AFC East club gutted its wide receiver core. Star wideout Stefon Diggs got dealt to the Houston Texans for a second-round selection in the 2025 NFL draft. Meanwhile, fellow pass-catcher Gabe Davis inked a three-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, leaving Buffalo’s group of pass-catchers short-handed (no pun intended) heading into next fall.
Rumors circulated that the Bills could pick a wide receiver in Thursday’s first round of the 2024 NFL draft. However, in a pair of shocking moves regarding their late first-round selection, the Bills traded out of the first round entirely, opting to move up in subsequent rounds. In return, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Carolina Panthers, the two teams that made a deal with Buffalo, selected receivers, leaving Bills fans furious with the front office.
Buffalo Bills Fans: Angry with Team for Passing on Wide Receivers
The Buffalo Bills entered Thursday needing wide receiver help after Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis departed. After the first round, Buffalo still needs help in the receiver room. The Bills traded down twice in the first round, moving up in three later rounds. However, Bills fans felt disappointed with the conclusion of Thursday’s festivities, especially with a wide receiver going to the teams they dealt with. The Kansas City Chiefs locked up former Texas Longhorns pass-catcher and speedster Xavier Worthy, while the Carolina Panthers snagged Xavier Legette, formerly of South Carolina.
Buffalo fans quickly took to social media, angry with the team for passing up multiple opportunities to select a position of need on Thursday. Their fans did not hold back when sharing their thoughts on Twitter (also known as X).

Buffalo Bills: Select First on Friday
Despite missing out on some top-tier talent late in the first round, the Buffalo Bills own the first pick of the second round on Friday. Additionally, they acquired a third and fifth-round pick for a fourth and sixth-rounder. Regarding the receivers, Georgia’s Ladd McConkey and Texas’ Adonai Mitchell headline the group of remaining pass-catchers. During his three-year college career, McConkey posted 119 receptions, 1,687 yards, and 14 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Mitchell helped lead Texas to the College Football Playoff Championship after an 845-yard campaign.
The Bills will also be able to add a wideout later in the draft, including as early as the third round. Former fifth-round pick Khalil Shakir and free agent signee Curtis Samuel are currently the leaders of the Bills receiving core.
