In the wake of the shooting tragedy that engulfed the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade, Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas spoke to the media and released his statement to address the tragic attack that happened.
Lucas expressed his pain and heartbreak over the tragedy, adding that it’s something he never thought would happen in his city.
Mayor Quinton Lucas Speaks on Kansas City Chiefs Parade Shooting
Speaking to the media along with Kansas City police, Mayor Lucas called what happened an “absolute tragedy,” adding that they were also in the festivities to join the rest of the city in celebrating the team’s victory.
With that said, little did they expect something so horrible to occur in a day that was supposed to be full of love and fun. One has been confirmed dead while at least nine others were injured, per ABC News.
“We went out today, like everyone in Kansas City, looking to have a celebration. That celebration was marred by a shooting. This is absolutely a tragedy, the likes of which we never would have expected in Kansas City,” the Kansas City mayor shared.
“I’m heartbroken. I was there with my wife, I was there with my mother, we never would have thought that we, along with Chiefs players, along with fans, hundreds of thousands of people, would be forced to run for our safety.”

Mayor Quinton Lucas noted that there were about 600 policemen and 250 other officers from various agencies on duty during the parade. He went on to thank the first responders–including law enforcement, the fire department and medical personnel–for quickly helping the victims and doing their best to catch the suspects. As reported earlier, two armed individuals have been caught.
Adam Schefter’s Emotional Message After Kansas City Chiefs Parade Shooting
Several players, fans and media personalities have since reacted to the tragedy. For one, Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes took to social media to share his prayers for the victims and their families.
Among those who were really emotional over the heartbreaking tragedy was ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. In the latest episode of NFL Live, Schefter addressed the shooting and condemned the violence that occurred once again in the US.
“We could be talking about this particular event at a school, we could be talking about it at a mall, we could be talking about it at a nightclub. We could be talking about it in any facet of America. This is our country today, unfortunately, where you have a celebration happening in Kansas City – to celebrate the world champions and a shooting breaks out to where now ABC news has confirmed that one person has lost their life,” Schefter passionately said, per Awful Announcing.
“We are left here now to try to make sense of this particular situation. These images are happening everywhere all the time, every day, every week in this country. It’s disgusting. It’s sickening. It’s enough. How many times do we have to see this everywhere?”
Schefter urged all sectors to do something about the senseless killings, adding that today may be the Chiefs’ turn, then tomorrow there will be someone else who will suffer because no one is doing anything about it.
It remains to be seen what the US government will do, especially in a nation where there has been mass shootings often. There have been calls for tighter gun laws, though it’s unknown if authorities will really take action seriously.
