Patrick Mahomes and his Chiefs teammates took to the streets today to celebrate their monumental achievement.
More than a million Kansas City Chiefs fans were lined the streets of Kansas City on this Valentine’s Day ready to shower love on their back-to-back Super Bowl champions.
The parade got underway just after 11 a.m. local time, as throngs of people lined the route through downtown Kansas City, reveling in the unseasonably warm temperatures.
Chiefs players were crowded on double-decker buses, waving to fans as they rolled through the city. Star tight end Travis Kelce was spotted on the same bus as Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes but it did not appear that his girlfriend, megastar musician Taylor Swift, was able to make the trip. Swift has tour dates in Australia this weekend.
It didn’t take long for some players to leave their rides to walk the parade route, high-fiving fans and some even handing out a few libations to people who had been waiting throughout the morning to cheer on the Chiefs.
It’s the third parade for the Kansas City Chiefs in five years as they have cemented themselves as the NFL’s latest dynasty. Mahomes, who at 28 years of age has already made a claim to the title of greatest quarterback ever, put out the call the day before the parade for Chiefs fans to show up early and be ready to party.
“ChiefsKingdom let’s do it big tomorrow!!” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday. “See yall at the parade!”
Mahomes certainly enjoyed last year’s parade, too, at one point handing a fan the Lombardi Trophy and then apparently forgetting about it as he walked away.
Championship parades are often a time for players to let loose and blow off steam as they revel in their victory ahead of the offseason. In that vein, Patrick Mahomes poked fun at his teammate, Jaylen Watson, who ended last year’s revelries in a wheelchair after enjoying the fun a bit too much.
“You going to make it this year bro?” Mahomes joked with Watson on X.
In a virtual news conference on Tuesday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters it has been “mentioned a couple of times” to his players not to go too overboard with the celebrations.
“It’s great to have fun but be smart,” he added.
The numbers will likely be boosted given several schools in the city have allowed students to miss class to attend.
Patrick Mahomes Sends Clear Message After Kansas City Chiefs Parade Shooting
Shots were fired shortly after the conclusion of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade Wednesday afternoon, according to Kansas City Police.
“Shots were fired west of Union Station near the garage and multiple people were struck,” the police posted on X (formerly known as Twitter). “We took two armed people into custody for more investigation.”
The KC Police confirmed to local news station KSHB that 10 people had been shot, including an unknown number of children.
Chiefs star QB Patrick Mahomes took to social media with a simple, clear message roughly an hour following the shooting.
Praying for Kansas City… 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

The condition of the victims was not immediately clear. Two armed people were taken into custody, police said. The Kansas City fire department confirmed that a shooting had occurred close to Union Station in the city and referred to a “fluid situation”, according to local media reports.
Police and first responders were seen rushing to the area. This is obviously a scary development for a day that was meant to be celebratory for the Kansas City Chiefs.
