The Green Bay Packers demolished the Dallas Cowboys in perhaps the most surprising game of Wild Card weekend. The Packers had an incredible game on offense but they destroyed Dallas in large part to their incredible play on the defensive side of the ball.
Star corner back Jaire Alexander had a freak accident in practice during the week and was being monitored for an ankle injury leading up to the game. Before the game it was deemed that he was good to go but sadly he re-injured his ankle and was done for the rest of the game after.
Head coach Matt LaFleur gave an update following the game that has Packers fans concerned that Alexander won’t be able to play in their divisional playoff matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. LaFleur said after the game:
“Alexander wouldn’t have been allowed to re-enter the contest if it wasn’t a blowout for much of the second half.”
Obviously with the game not being close, Alexander was not going to come back after injuring his ankle again, but LaFleur’s comments do not bode well for next week as clearly this injury is not nothing.
Will Green Bay Packers Corner Jaire Alexander Be Ready For Divisional Matchup
Alexander’s status for the game against Dallas was up in the air all week, and only after Alexander looked good enough right before the game, did he get the ok to play. This will be one of the biggest story lines entering the divisional round matchup as the Packers will need everything they can get to beat one of the best teams in the league in their house.
Just like with Dallas, San Francisco has elite weapons at the receiver position, and having Alexander available and able to go makes a huge difference in trying to stop the high flying San Fran offense. Thankfully for the Packers they were up big when Alexander went out and their defense was playing incredibly.
Alexander knows how crucial a role he will play this coming week so he most likely will suit up just like he did against Dallas. Jordan Love has been playing amazing football and is clearly the quarterback of the future for this Packers team. Alexander and the defense will have to do their part if they want to have a chance in beating the NFC 1 seed.
We will have to monitor Alexanders progress all week to see if the star cornerback will have a shot to go for this huge playoff matchup. For now the Packers can celebrate shocking the NFL world and taking down the 2 seed in the conference.
