The Jackson Arnold era in Norman, Oklahoma, will start next fall. However, Oklahoma football added quarterback depth this offseason with the acquisition of longtime college starter Casey Thompson, who will presumably play a backup role to Arnold. Thompson’s addition has finally resulted in the loss of a fellow signal-caller to the transfer portal, quarterback General Booty.
The Sooners had a quiet spring until Booty announced his intentions of transferring on Thursday. Also departing OU are linebacker Shane Whitter and tight end Hayden Bray. Meanwhile, the team earned commitments from former SMU offensive lineman Branson Hickman and defensive lineman Jermayne Lole, formerly of Louisville.
Quarterback General Booty: Leaving Oklahoma Football

General Booty is out in Oklahoma after two years with the program. The six-foot-two signal caller started his collegiate career at Tyler (Texas) Junior College in 2021, where he threw for 3,410 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 11 picks across 12 games. The former three-star prospect landed with Oklahoma football for the 2022 season, seeing game action only once against TCU in early October. He returned in 2023 but only saw game action once while backing up fellow passers Jackson Arnold and Dillion Gabriel. Booty never threw a pass while with the Sooners.

Booty will enter the transfer portal for the second time in his college career. The former Oklahoma passer is the nephew of Josh Booty, formerly of the LSU Tigers and a sixth-round pick in the 2001 NFL draft by the Seattle Seahawks. His father, Abram Booty, caught 117 passes during a four-year sting with LSU. He is also related to former USC signal-caller John David Booty.
Oklahoma Sooners: QB Depth Chart

The loss of General Booty further solidifies the top of the quarterback depth chart for Oklahoma football. Jackson Arnold is the likeliest candidate to lead Oklahoma next fall. The former five-star mega prospect sat behind Dillion Gabriel last season as a true freshman but earned the start in the team’s bowl game after Gabriel entered the transfer portal. Arnold went 26-of-45 for 361 yards and two touchdowns against three picks. He also ran 11 times for 38 yards.
Meanwhile, former Texas Longhorns, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and FAU Owls starting quarterback Caset Thompson will also play a significant role next season. Thompson enters his sixth college season and has thrown for 5,338 yards, 52 touchdowns, and 24 picks in 33 games. He has also rushed for ten scores.
