The Green Bay Packers managed to sneak into the post season in Jordan Love’s first season as a starter and have been playing very solid football down the stretch. They will face the Dallas Cowboys this week in the Wild Card weekend and are hoping to come up with a huge upset.
They may have to try and get the win without their best corner back Jaire Alexander as he had freak accident at practice on Wednesday and did not practice Thursday. It would be a huge loss for the Packers to not have one of their best defenders on the field against an incredible high flying offense in Dallas, so I’m sure Alexander is doing everything he can to get back on the field for the game.
Jordan Love has been very solid in his first year as a starter and the Packers should be a good team for many years to come but the loss of Alexander for this week could make them one and done in the playoffs.
Green Bay Packers’ Matt LaFleur Comments on Jaire Alexander
Matt Lafleur addressed the accident in the media today and gave an update on Alexander’s status ahead of their huge playoff matchup. He was quoted saying:
“It was kind of a freak deal yesterday,” LaFleur said, via Wes Hodkiewicz of the team website. “We had mostly a jog-through, and he stepped on somebody’s foot and rolled his ankle. He’s doing everything he can to be available. I’d say it’s day-to-day.”
It would be surprising if Alexander missed the game as this is a huge playoff game for them and he will do everything he can to be on the field. But Lafleur made it sound like quite a freak accident.
Alexander was doing everything he was supposed in a walk through or “jog” type of practice. This is brutal news as accidents happen but you never want a key player to go down in practice especially the week before the playoffs start. Lafleur made another comment about how this was a freak accident saying:
“It was a freaky deal,” LaFleur said, via Ryan Wood of USA Today network. “He was focused, locked in, doing everything we were asking him to do, and it just happened.”
With his status as day to day and not immediately ruled out for the game it is a good sign that he may be able to go for the big playoff game, but we will have to see if he can log a practice tomorrow ahead of the game.
