California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statement following the San Francisco 49ers loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The 49ers blew a couple of leads en route to their second Super Bowl loss in five seasons.
California politicians had a rough Super Bowl night
California politicians had somber responses following the loss. Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi has to pay up to Missouri representative Emanuel Cleaver after the Chiefs’ win. Pelosi bet chocolate on the 49ers to win the Super Bowl.
Gavin Newsom issues statement after Super Bowl
Newsom didn’t have a public bet, but he was cheering for the 49ers to pull off their sixth championship. Newsome took to X to congratulate the Chiefs and thank the 49ers for their efforts:
Congratulations on your victory, @Chiefs
— and cheers to the @49ers for a game well-fought. The Niners brought passion, energy, and grit to the field tonight. California is proud.

The San Francisco 49ers have good odds for next season
Newsom shouldn’t be too discouraged about the 49ers prospects. Per Jack McKessy with USA Today, the 49ers have the best odds to win next year’s Super Bowl:
“They fell short of their ultimate goal this season, but the 49ers still have two outstanding wide receivers – maybe three after Jauan Jennings’ standout performance – an All-Pro running back and a stacked defense. Head coach Kyle Shanahan will add some pieces this offseason without losing many of his team’s top performers and will be in a great position to contend again next year.”
Newsom could be congratulating the 49ers next February.
