The Baltimore Ravens are one of the few teams that are fully underway in training camp. There are high expectations for this team, as they had the best record in the NFL last year. Yet, they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship, who they will open the 2024 season against on the road.
One of the most important players for the Ravens this season is QB Lamar Jackson. However, reports from today’s practice regarding Jackson may make Ravens fans hold their breath. Read below to find out why Lamar Jackson had to leave practice and if it is a serious concern.
Lamar Jackson Leaves Practice Due to Illness

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Lamar Jackson left today’s practice due to an undisclosed illness. He was sent home likely to give him the proper rest and time needed to recover from said illness. Given the reasoning for leaving this practice, it is unlikely that this will be a serious concern for the Ravens going forward.
The Ravens started having all veterans report for training camp yesterday, July 20th. At the time of writing, there are still over six weeks remaining until the team’s first regular season game.
Reigning NFL MVP

Lamar Jackson had one of the best years of his career last season. It was good enough for him to win the NFL MVP award for the second time in his career. On top of this, most people seem to agree it solidified him among the elite quarterbacks in the league.
So, what did Jackson do for the team last season besides leading them to 13 wins? For starters, he had the most passing yards in a single season of his career (3,678). Jackson also had 821 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns, and 24 touchdown passes. Also, he had just seven interceptions.
Baltimore Ravens Moving Forward

As mentioned above, Jackson’s early departure from practice should not be a big concern. However, this is an important year for the Ravens, given how close they came to appearing in another Super Bowl last season.
Lamar Jackson is entering his seventh season in the NFL. However, head coach John Harbaugh has already captured a Super Bowl for the Baltimore Ravens way back in 2012 when Joe Flacco was the starting quarterback. Now, he hopes to lead the 2024 Ravens to the same destiny.
