Every year there are multiple college football quarterbacks who have decisions to make on their college and NFL futures. This season is no different and here are fifteen QBs whose decisions will alter the course of the 2024 NFL Draft, their current teams, or other teams through the transfer portal.
Enter the 2024 NFL Draft
JJ McCarthy (Michigan)
McCarthy is going to be a top 3-4 QB in the 2024 NFL Draft. There is little to no reason for him to return to school for another season. He is a likely top-10 pick.
Carson Beck (Georgia)
If Beck were to enter the draft, he could rival Drake Maye for the QB2 spot. He has elite traits that would make him a potential top-5 pick.
Should/Will Return to Current School for Another Season
Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss)
It has been reported Jaxson Dart will return to Ole Miss for another season. Dart has improved greatly since transferring from USC two seasons ago, but he could use another year of seasoning under Lane Kiffin.
Spencer Rattler (South Carolina)
Somehow, Rattler has another year of eligibility left…and he should use it. After losing his starting gig to Caleb Williams at Oklahoma, Rattler transferred to South Carolina two years ago. He struggled to find his footing in the Gamecock offense until late last season and has had a very solid 2023 season. Another year in Columbia would best serve him.
Shedeur Sanders (Colorado)
It has been widely speculated Sanders would return to Colorado for the 2024 season. After an extremely hot start, where he rose up many mock draft boards, Sanders has cooled since. A wild success at Jackson State before transferring up, Shedeur could be the top QB taken in 2025.
Quinn Ewers (Texas)
Another speculated returnee for 2024, Ewers is another potential top QB for the 2025 class. Probably no better than QB4 or 5 if he were to enter the 2024 draft, the Longhorn QB is likely to make his return to Austin for another season.
Cameron Ward (Washington State)
Ward is a perplexing prospect for many people. He has a tremendous arm and can make all of the throws, but lacks the consistency I would like to see out of a potential NFL QB. Ward is another who could be near the top-rated QBs in the 2025 class.
Kyle McCord (Ohio State)
McCord, a former 5-star recruit, pushed now top Rookie QB CJ Stroud for two seasons at Ohio State. Now that he has the starting job, Ohio State’s offense does not look like it did with Stroud. McCord should return for another season to improve his draft stock, because it would not be favorable at its current state.
Should Enter the Transfer Portal
Maalik Murphy (Texas)
With the potential return of Quinn Ewers to Texas, Murphy should look to hit the transfer portal. There will be several teams looking for a QB of Murphy’s caliber. Possible top destinations could include: Washington, Oregon, Utah, Florida State, Michigan, North Carolina, and Notre Dame.
Devin Brown (Ohio State)
With saying McCord should return to Ohio State, that means Brown should look to transfer. One of the top QB recruits in the class of 2022, Brown could be a massive get for a top school looking for an answer at the position. Possible top destinations: see Maalik Murphy.
Miller Moss (USC)
Miller Moss is caught between a rock and a hard place. While Caleb Williams is headed to the draft, the starting QB position at USC is likely to go to heralded Freshman Malachi Nelson. A move to a low-level Power 5 school or high-level Group of 5 school could be the move.
Should Return for Another Season, but Transfer
Tyler Van Dyke (Miami)
Tyler Van Dyke should 100% use his final year of eligibility at another school. Before last season, Van Dyke was being hyped as a potential 1st rounder. Now, he has been replaced by freshman QB Emory Williams at Miami. It is time to move on.
Riley Leonard (Duke)
Leonard could be a high-end, top QB in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, him staying at Duke could hinder him. Head Coach Mike Elko is likely to get a better job this offseason, so Leonard should also leave for a better job. Auburn or Florida State could be intriguing landing spots.
Michael Pratt (Tulane)
See Riley Leonard.
Will Rogers (Mississippi State)
After the death of Head Coach Mike Leach, the hire of Zach Arnett really hurt Will Rogers. The complete change of the offense was difficult for the SEC’s leader in career passing yards. Auburn or Kentucky makes sense to me for Will Rogers.
