Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase wants to see the new wide receiver market before he even thinks about signing a deal. Chase is expected to sign an extension this offseason to reset the wide receiver market.
Chase’s contract is expected to be the Bengals’ biggest offseason decision. The team would like to keep Chase with quarterback Joe Burrow for years to come. But Burrow’s five-year, $275 million deal is complicating the team’s salary cap. Extending Chase will exacerbate the issue.
Chase wants serious money and bragging rights over his former LSU teammate.
Chase wants the Cincinnati Bengals to pay for him
According to Kelsey Conway with USA Today, Chase said he wants to sign an extension this offseason but isn’t sure if that can be done. One obstacle to Chase signing a contract? Chase wants Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson to sign first so Cincinnati will give him a larger bag:
I asked Ja’Marr Chase – who is always brutally honest – if he wants to get his contract extension done this offseason: “Lord knows I want to do that. I mean, but we’ll see what happens.” Does Justin Jefferson need to get his done first for you to sign? ” Hell yeah.”

That’s the Bengals way.
Burrow was rumored to have waited before signing an extension with the Bengals for the Los Angeles Chargers to extend Justin Herbert. That resulted in Burrow setting the quarterback market.
Chase wants to do the same.
The business savvy of the Bengals two-best players could cripple the strength of the rest of the roster for seasons to come.
