The Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade shooter has been officially sentenced to a state facility for youths. The 15-year-old was not named in the court documents and was only referred to as R.G.’s actions led to the death of a local radio program host, 25 wounded and 69 others injured, according to Kansas City police Det. Grant Spiking’s testimony.
The unnamed teenager, who was referred to as R.G. in court documents, claimed that the shooting during the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade on February 14 was not who he is. He described himself a good kid that was involved in the wrong crowd.
The commitment at a state Department of Youth Services facility could typically last nine to 12 months. The teen’s attorney requested he be released with an intensive supervision program and house arrest with no social media use as a condition. However, that was not what happened.
Two other teens have been charged in the shooting but Jackson County Family Court Administrative Judge Jennifer Phillips ruled last month that one of them will not face prosecution as an adult. This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more news becomes available.
