The Cincinnati Bengals are approaching the end of the season and as such more attention is being paid to their offseason agenda. While the team will be struggling with the decisions as to which players to bring back and who to add, there are some players who are getting excited for negotiations.
Bengals Star Wide Receiver Ja’Marr Chase Speaks Out on Contract Negotiations
One player who is salivating over the idea of his new contract will be elite wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. Chase has established himself as one of the best wideouts in the NFL and has been named to the Pro Bowl roster in each of his first three seasons.
The superstar receiver recently spoke out on how he feels about the impending negotiations and whether he wants to close his contract extension before the beginning of the 2024 season.
“Lord knows I want to do that,” Chase said. “I mean, but we’ll see what happens.”
Similar to franchise quarterback Joe Burrow, Chase is expected to reset the market at the wide receiver position but he is going to be competing with former college teammate and NFL Offensive Player of the Year Justin Jefferson. Jefferson was expected to sign his extension last season but neither he nor the Minnesota Vikings could come to a suitable agreement on the price. k
While both players are excellent players, who will get paid the most will most likely depend on who signs the contract first. Typically in the world of NFL contracts, elite players tend to establish the record each time a new player is up for it. Based on the current highest paid wide receiver Tyreek Hill‘s four year contract for $120 million in March 2022, it is expected that both Jefferson and Chase will sign contracts this offseason for four years for $128 million to $140 million. These contracts would average between $32 and $35 million per year.
The anticipated extension will take over half of Cincinnati’s available cap space this offseason as they just signed a record breaking contract for Burrow. It is clearly an objective of Cincinnati to keep these two LSU teammates for as long as possible.
